Our nice weather is usually accompanied by not so nice humidity... however, I shall feel smug that it never gets that hot here

The ice in the marina where I moor is now over 2 inches thick, and my boat is stuck fast, imitating Shackleton's 'Fram' albeit without the penguins. On the upside, it was -8 centigrade last night and I was *still* too damn hot as the wind whipped up the stove to resemble a blast furnace. On the downside, every time a swan walks past the boat it sounds like a tank going by!

Crumpets (like scones & muffins) are not staples in a French diet, my deah [when I hear of "crumpets" I always imagine it pronounced w/ John Cleese's best Queen's english accent (maybe Eric idle would be better?)]... that said, I did roast chestnuts a few times & it was very nice.

Woke up this morning, stepped into the yellow, sunshiny kitchen, and smiled. Wondered why I felt so happy. Went, still smiling, in the living room.

Then it hit me.

The sun is shining and the skies are blue. For the first time in weeks. Cue choirs of angels!!!!!

I'll be out all day, metabolizing some vitamin D!

Do you ever get ice movement and hull damage from that?

Good point - I keep forgetting crumpets and (English) muffins are an, erm, English thing! They're still nice though (And Eric Idle would sound a little less strident saying it).

Fresh roasted chestnuts are very nice - we usually have them when we visit my f-i-l in winter as he has an open fire

As for the link... I'm hungry now! Not least because I spotted this in the side bar, and then this

Wow - I never thought I would say this in January but....

Looking at the wunderground temperature map many places in the southern US are colder than here in Edmonton. My thermometer is reading -3C and I see many temperatures colder than that in the Carolinas, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. This is one weird winter.

things are walkable from here to the road (which hasn't been gritted) - but not even a 4x4 could get down to our house.
but at least it's sunny and calm.....

not looking forward to a 2 mile walk on a snow encrusted road just wide enough for one vehicle (no pavement/sidewalk) - that's how far it is to the shop and GP surgery
