I got a chance to experience the Que up close and personal. It is remarkably light for it's size and very slick looking but I wasn't really that impressed. The display isn't very dark; it kind of reminded my of the display on my 700 without the glare. The print displayed on my 600 seemed darker to me although I didn't have it with me for comparison. And for the price, I would rather hold out for one of the new netbooks that are coming out. Asus has a nice little netbook with a battery life of 14 hours and it wasn't much heavier than the Que (of course, that is only my opinion and not a side by side comparison of the specks). Remember, I'm not industry insider or technician only a consumer (and a huge gadget junkie) but I think I'll wait another year to see what comes up.

I have not seen any data on the edge's weight, I presume the same as comparable size netbook monitor, i.e. heavier than the e-ink screen. No big deal, but you won't be holding it in one hand for too long (as you can see from the video you can comfortably hold the Que with your left hand even in landscape mode), and that is my preferred reading mode. Besides you need one hand free for operating the touch screen. Now if the two screens of the edge could be seperated....

Even their slogan sounds a bit off - "Live, Work, Que". Is that like Live and Work in order to stand in a Queue? It just doesn't work for me. But name aside, it looks pretty good. I don't know if I can wait until April though. The switcharoo back to my PDA after marrying off my Iliad isn't working well at all for my eyes. Before I saw the demos, I had all but given up on the idea of being able to read techincal PDFs on eReaders without reflowing and cropping. |

I'm excited but puzzled. This is very close to something I could use daily at work but it seems to lack any capability of annotating documents. I heard him say in the video "no stylus" and I was rather shocked and dismayed. On the other hand I think I also heard "virtual keyboard" but now I can't find it mentioned in the specs anywhere. So, aside from allowing one to read A4/Letter PDFs on a light, durable e-ink screen, what's this good for again?

Ooops. Thanks, duckie! Any clues about the limits that the virtual keyboard could be used? For example, did anyone see the ability to create note files or editing documents? Or is this likely just for searching and navigation?

(Personally, I'm happy never to go back to my Palm V and its stylus, but I know some people are very comfortable with that interface) |

I spent 15 minutes or so with one today and I am really really impressed. I clearly hadn't wrapped my head around how thin 1/3 of an inch really is. Its less than a full legal pad. I thought the interface was well done. A couple things I would change. Staus bar for one you can't just poke the middle of the status bar to jump forward/back When you touch there it brings up a bar in increments of like twenty- 75-95-115 etc .If you touch "75" it will go to 75 but if you touch in between then it gives you another bar for 76,77.78 etc for you to choose. Just over done and a little complicated. No just notes now but they are already planning to add by april. you can scribble on a document with your finger or you can place little graphical flags or you can annotate with the keyboard. when you annotate it makes a little square sticky note on the page with your typed text tha tyou can re-position. ALL of these notes on a PDF can be EXPORTED WITH THE PDF ![]() There were a couple menu/selection things I would do differently but over all i think its a really well thought out device. I'd be happy to have one. Of the Push stuff like email and subscriptions etc will push to the device over the wife so you dont NEED the 3g to get the full use of the device. Oh the vent thingy on the bottom is a speaker that gives a little tone for feedback when you make selections etc. But it definitely is a business oriented device. There are some other large format devices devices coming that will be more suited to casual/educational/scientific reading Last edited by Dulin's Books; 01-10-2010 at 01:52 AM. |

Also, how did you find the responsiveness, especially when note taking and using the virtual keyboard? In the videos, it doesn't look spectacular. |

if you can make annotations, you can have a blank doc and "annotate" it to take notes..
