Thank you very much for the suggestion, but have you ever compared prices for books in Europe and the US? It is a major difference. Europe is at least 50% (yes fifty) more expensive.

Same answer to you as to omk3. I have no problem finding the books I would like but prices are so much more expensive in the European stores. I did the test yesterday and a book that costs 9.99 dollar at Reader Store cost 1060 euro at bol.com = 16 $

Yes. I usually look for the cheapest place to buy them - that's why I start with Google, to make the search wide.

Over the last years, I've found that prices fluctuate enough in different shops that there's no one shop that'll always be cheaper (except perhaps if you can buy from Amazon at US prices).

ATM, I'm taking advantage of the offer of a 40% rebate on a purchase (up to 9 books) in exchange for a book review at cyberread.com. So far, I've not had any problems with geo restrictions there.

As for European prices, we have to take VAT into account when doing a fair comparison.

Perhaps if you post some info about your situation here, we can help. There are plenty of happy Sony users here who've seen most of the problems before.

Importantly, it matters which country you're in. You can't buy from the Sony store except in the USA/Canada without being clever with your credit card address.

I assume you're in the US? There are other places you can buy ebooks from, e.g. Fictionwise or BooksOnBoard - look for EPUB format.

Two weeks! Goodness - that's a long phone call. Have you considered hanging up and phoning back? I rather suspect that if you've been holding for two weeks, something gone wrong.

From her other post she is in Canada and looks like after having some problems she tried a new card with an American address and was getting a zip code error. The problem with switching locals midstream is that you need to do it with a clean sw install, cookies, registry ehtries, etc... Leave a trace behind from a previous address and it could get glitchy if the sw picks it up.

Have been on hold on the phone every day, hour after hour. Poor service. Wish I had bought a Kindle.
Harry - got a good chuckle there, thanks

As far as I know it's 15% because it's considered software.

It is considered software, and alas the VAT rate is back to 17.5%.
