If it ran Windows Mobile, Windows 7, or Maemo, I'd be interested. As it stands, Android is the deal-breaker for me.

O_O wow, finally someone else who doesn't think the use of the Android OS is the second coming of Jesus Christ...

Usually just the name Android sends people into rapture with all of it's... "possibilities".

My issue with Android is similar to my issue with the Kindle - I don't like when things are too tightly intregrated with one provider. Also, Google has quite a few privacy issues. When it comes to mobile versions of Linux, I feel that the better options are Maemo (which is on the newer Nokia devices) or one of the mobile versions of Ubuntu.

I'm a WinMo man myself.

Okay, I will be putting in an order for an Edge but I doubt it will ever be my main reader. My intent is to use it in my law office primarily as an office tool and secondarily as a reader. We'll see how it goes and I will report back.

It it had been a Windows 7 device, I'd have looked beyond its uglyness... It would have had an added value then.

I am the other way around.

I see android apps equalling windows mobile apps in form and power with support for gesture data manipulation built in. I am ready to give microsoft the heave ho. It's been fun, But I am ready to move up.

That's the problem I have with most of these devices. I don't want a mobile OS, I want a full blown OS. If I would get a new PDA, Android might be nice. But if I'll get a tablet, I want something more.

It's one of the more interesting and unique devices on the market. If they can survive for a few years, the Edge III may just be a market-beater. I'm not sure this Edge I is quite the right device. Still, it's a hopeful monster.

I like the Edge for several reasons. But one particular desire I have is to have a single device on which I can read ebooks that I buy from any vendor. The eink side of the Edge is designed as an ADE reader. But do you think that it would be possible to read Mobipockets or even Amazon books (via Kindle for PC) on the LCD side of the Edge, too? I'm a tech dummy and see only that it's an Android device so I'm utterly clueless. I recall that Adobe and/or Amazon had this past year forbidden any ebook device from handling both secure Mobipocket and ADE ebooks. I loathe DRM removal and conversion tricks so I'm asking for all of us potential users for whom such tactics are not on the table.

Kindle for PC isn't available for Android, as far as I know.

But what you mention is the reason why I want a full blown OS. More choice in reading applications. Ereader, Mobipocket, Amazon, epub, I can read all of them DRM'ed on my PC. And if I'd buy a tablet, I want to be able to read them all on that as well.

I know there is an andriod ebook reader software out there. I don't see why it wouldn't work on this device. Of course you would have to read on the LCD and not the eInk... I think... not sure.

That said, I don't think that software supports and DRM so you would have to "liberate" your ebooks... if you could do that... why not just convert them to ePub which the Edge does support already.

I am glad it's not running Windows. I have the Archos 5IT and like how well Androids runs on it. I don't want to have to wait 30 seconds for something to boot up.

There are a couple of really good e-readers on Android (there could be more); 1. Aldiko, www.aldiko.com/ and FReader, www.readingsoft.com/freader.html.

As an added bonus the Android side should be a good comic reader.
