Just read about the new firmware ad upgraded right away! Nice xmas / new year present!
![]() I have made a quick video to show the fast pagination (crappy quality, but it show the speeding pages well enough): YouTube - Cybook Gen 3 with new ultra-fast pagination mode The device is a Gen 3 with 512MB/200MHz Bye! |

2.0 ePub crash - 1.5 Okay
Cybook 2007 version
I really like the super fast page-turning I got from the last FW update. I installed 2.0 ePub and tried to relocate the "last page" I was reading in a plain txt file. With fast page-turns and pagenumbers that should be easy - however the CyBook reboots very time I try to skip past page 25 (from 374). I converted the txt-file to an ePub file - however I get the same results: reboot of the Cybook. Opening the 374 page - book takes approx 60 sec. I tried changing font-size - takes too much time to do this on the fly I installed the 1.5 Mobi version and have no problems at all: Cybook with fast pageturns and folder view. However it still lacks pagenumbers so I would prefer to use the 2.0 ePub version. Has anybody have the same experiences?? |

ePub is xml based, so it tacking some time to be prosesed is not surprising.
I had the cybook reboting on me, once, when trying to open a file. Never in the midle of the reading. It's happening at the same place on txt and ePub ? |

Could be my limited available memory that is causing the reboots so I would like to get confirmation that I'm the only one or is this a common bug shared by more ePub 2.0 users |

In fact the limitation of splitting was done for some devices that can't handle large files, but on some device this limitation does not exist (like the Opus/Gen3)

Later today I shall try to use "official" large ePubfiles and get back with the result. |

I have to say I'm simply loving the 1.5 - I've never known my Gen3 so stable. Touch wood, it hasn't frozen once - and both the one I had before (with a broken screen - must get it fixed one day) and this one, before it died (and was so spectacularly resurrected by 1.5!) froze every few pages. And the battery life seems a lot better, too.
As for backup, I certainly have additional copies of things I can't redownload quickly and easily! What I'm debating doing is buying another SD card (rather than borrowing my camera's, which is what I used to upgrade it with) and storing my books on there; I have yet to feel the need to use one in my machine, as I am barely using a quarter of its memory as it is, with at least 50 books on it! Thanks, Cybook! |

I finally did the upgrade yesterday, and I'm glad!
![]() I was a bit reluctant because I saw that some people had some problems with crashes when accessing the dictionary with 1.5, but since this seemed to be a problem only for a very small number of persons, I took the jump. I'm glad that the idea of putting the books in a separate folder was useful to some of you by the way. ![]() |

I would say it is your .txt or epub book. I had a few probs with my 2.0 FW. I removed the epub book and txt book that caused the problem. Since then no crashes. So, I imagine your problem was the book itself not the 2.0 FW update.

If it crashes, it's software's fault because, especially with txt and ePub format, software can always be made to check on ebook formatting, recognize elements and ignore elements it doesn't handle. If the software is ok, and ebook has features it doesn't support, it wouldn't display them - but it shouldn't crash. If ebook is not in correct format, document syntax can be checked without crashing as well.

But two point still : It's hard to forseen ALL what could happen. If an ePub don't respect the standard, well... Not the reader's job to fix that. If everything goes as excepted, both reader and ePub use the standard, and it "just work". There shouldn't be stuff the reader "don't recognize". |

I mark this as a bug because I can expect that the existing working txt reading capabilities of the Cybook should not break in the FW 2.0 update Thanks for the tips and suggestions |
