I suspect our views on hypocrisy are somewhat different as well--not to mention courtesy. As to ethics, you clearly don't have a clue as to the value I put on them.

As I think more about it, I wonder how the $650 Que will compete against the $490 Entourage Edge which has both a 9.7 inch eInk screen and an LCD screen for productivity apps. The main thing I think that give the Que the edge (pun intended) would be the lower weight and higher battery life.

One thing Plastic Logic seems to have right now is mind share-they are getting a ton of press coverage (albeit none without mentioning the price).

It's funny that you're saying that the Entourage is faulted for giving us more for less.

I don't know the answers to your three specific QUE questions -- I could provide them for the KDX :-), but if I were in your shoes I would just push on in evaluating the QUE. At the end of the day the decision-maker for me was that I guessed that I could recover the KDX purchase price in about a year based on laser toner cartridge and cases of copy paper not bought. In the two months that I have had my KDX, I have certainly seen a dramatic drop in the use of my laser printers, but the surprising saving has been in the cost of general book titles. I had been accustomed to getting 35 to 40% off at Amazon.com, and now (through about 150 titles) I am getting close to 50% off.

Since your usage seems to be mostly of a business nature, I don't think the Amazon.com savings would be that compelling to you. I don't know what the availability of general titles on the Que device will be, nor do I know what the availability of periodical titles will be either. I do think that you could probably recover the price of the Que in a reasonable amount of time, however. I would advise getting the cheaper of the devices -- as I don't think the 3G network access, nor the additional memory capacity will be all that important -- as it will certainly be possible to move documents back and forth between the Que and your PC quite easily.

Based on what little I know about the QUE, I think that it will be able to communicate with your office PCs via the built-in WiFi capabilities.

I think PL is planning to go the route of selling on the whole package as a system. While it doesn't appear to do much that something like the eDGe can't do, it's pitch looks to be aimed toward the whole e-mail/printer driver/bluetooth connectivity thing. A one-click, simple process for getting those charts and reports off the desktop and onto the device so you can take them to a meeting without using paper would be a welcome thing to a number of business folks.

I would love to get this. I am even considering pre-ordering. However, after putting the 4GB Que and accompanying ProFolio in the cart and seeing the the total cost, taxes included, at $835, I think I will wait for some more hands on videos and reviews before pulling the trigger. Where's Santa when you need him?

You are exactly the case use they are aiming for and why I want to sell this thing. I think every lawyer in town could use this exactly as you say. I have told them months ago I will knock on the door of every law firm in this town and more if they let me be a reseller. If I had a few that i could loan to people to use for a couple of days I think even tho its $650 I could sell hundreds of them. Probably thousands with the number of lawyers around here and city government types

edit: they should throw in a folio or a Subscription for pre-orders

The Que uses Barnes and Noble for its book store. Prices appear to be the same. Currently it shows over 25000 fiction books and over 13000 non fiction books. Currently only 21 magazines and 16 newspapers are available but I expect that to increase as time goes on.

Depending on my tax refund I may get one. Hopefully we will no more about the Skiff prior to the April release. My only problem with this and any of the other devices that are out now and in the future is that my company will not allow me to connect any device that can act as a storage device to their computers. In fact just plugging in a USB storage device sets of alarms and whistles and the computer will get kicked of the network. So if I want to load any professional documents I would have to do it from home.

Ok... I knew this will sound a bit geeky... but having a device like this would be great. I could put PDFs of all the board/euro games that I play into it. This way, I could refer to them while we were playing if we needed to clarify a rule or had a question about it. I would also d/l the FAQs that the game companies put out on their web sites about the rules so they would be easy to refer to also.

As someone who prefers a nice powerful desktop PC with two big monitors... there are times when I wish I had something more portable for stuff like that that was NOT a laptop... but much lighter with better battery life. The Que (and the Entourage) seem to be fitting that bill. (Perhaps the Kindle DX but it has not handwritting annotation support).

BOb

BTW: My birthday is in May incase anyone was wondering.

this is, i think, the Que in a nutshell

"What we are driving on is the paperless briefcase,” said Richard Archuleta

Madam-Perhaps having them think of it as more of a wireless printer will allow you to use it. If you can print from your system and stuff it in your briefcase then "printing" to the Que is essentially the same. It would be a wireless one way transfer so there wouldn't be the issue of viruses uploading as there is for USB keys etc.

I always forget the damn taxes.

That might be a stretch too far for me.
