All joking aside, there are three issues with water immersion:
1) shorting due to the water - cure: dry it out. Any kind of dessicant is a good aid: silica gel, rice, kitty litter, anything like that which attracts water. Freezing may or may not help, depending on where the water is and what the device contains. 2) deposits due to salts, etc. in the water - If you dunked it into water with some kind of electrolyte (e.g., sea water, urine, etc.) you need to rinse it with demineralized water before drying it out; probably too late now 3) corrosion & swelling of thin internal connections & structures - the above need to be done quickly. Good Luck, Jack Tingle |

Okay ladies and gentlemen, I bought a psp charger today (hopefully it was the right one). The one I have is almost like a travel charger I think, it has the thing you plug into the wall and then the cord it comes with has a usb cord on one side (that plugs into the wall charger) and the ac charger port thingy on the other side. Do you think that will work? I put my reader on it 5 minutes ago, and I will keep you updated on what happens. If that's not the right charger for it, or if you think it's not going to work, let me know. Thanks everyone!!!!!

Well, I am sorry to say that it did not work. Sigh. I put it on the charger and the red light came on but after 30 minutes the red light went off. I tried turning it on while it was still plugged in-nada. I plugged it back in to the computer and it still won't show up anywhere on here. I even put in a memory card to see if nothing else, that would come up. Same thing, it doesn't show up anywhere on my computer.
What should I do now? Send it in to Sony and see what they say? Or do you think I should put it in the flea market and try to sell it? If it cost too much to fix I'm prob just going to end up doing that anyways. I already have my 600, which views pics and plays mp3's, so it's not like I need that part of the reader. If I sell it I'm prob gonna go out and get a 300 for a backup. I'm so sad tho! I still read in the tub, but now I put it in a zip-lock baggie (the good ones) so if I do drop it I won't have this problem. Again. |

This is the download page for specific OS for the 505 on the Sony site. I've never had to use this but if needed it's there. Sony eSupport for The firmware update did not complete on the Reader. You have to scroll down as there is a lot of white blank space when it comes up. Well, if the battery is shorted out from trying to turn it on when wet, you can always try opening it up and replacing the battery yourself. Apparently, it is way cheaper than sending it in for Sony repair and replacement. Sony Reader PRS-505 battery about $34 USD at BatteryShip.com. MR member igorsk has a disassembly set of photos for the 505 so you can see what is inside and notes about it. I figure that it can't hurt to try anything and everything. You just never know, something just may work. Also, sometimes I've read that a poster tries something again and it works. Good Luck ![]() Last edited by dreams; 12-30-2009 at 06:03 PM. Hard Reset
(erases all contents) If the device is on, slide the "Power" so that it turns off. Look for a small pinhole on the back panel (not the side, that's the charging indicator LED) and press the reset button on the back using a bent paper clip (do not use anything sharp like a pin). Slide the "Power" button to turn it on. While the screen displays "Starting up ...", you will see the light above the "Power" button flash in yellow. Wait for 35 to 40 seconds, then proceed to hold down the "MARK" and "VOL +" buttons. (NOTE on the PRS505, do not wait those 35~40 seconds, push and hold the "Mark" and "VOL +" buttons immediately -- the boot window is shorter on 505s) CONTINUE TO keep these 2 buttons pressed for about 5 to 10 seconds, until the round "PAGE" button makes a quick blue flash. CONTINUE to keep these 2 buttons pressed for another 25 seconds, the screen will show a "Reset All" message, and ask to delete all content. Press button '5' to clean up content, this could take several minutes if you have many files on the Reader. When the deletion completes, the Reader will turn off. Press the "Power" button to turn it on; this could take several minutes if you have many files on the Reader. Connect your device to your PC and log-in to the store. Go to Account>Manage Devices – you will be asked if you’d like to authorize this device to your account. Please say yes. Your device should be ready to read eBooks purchased from your account. I think this is what ur talking about? When I push in the reset button and push the power switch I don't get a yellow flash. I tried plugging it into the ac outlet and doing it too-nothing. I don't think it's the battery, the light comes on whenever I plug it in. I have no idea, I'm ready to start crying tho |

I seem to remember something about 10 resets or something and went looking... I found the below...
I've never had problems with my 505 (knock on wood) but I try to always read problem threads to try and learn. I hope something works for you with the information that I can find.. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=706036&postcount=6 From the above post, you may want to try the below part... to just get it on.. I don't know about the modification part. Quote:

I have decided to send it to the Sony store and see what they say. Worse comes to worse if it's too expensive to fix I can always sell it for parts
