What did you think of Going Rogue? I started a thread on it when it first came out asking and it promptly degenerated. Never really got any good feedback.

Going Rouge is a completely different book from Going Rogue. Going Rouge is a book of essays that are critical of Sarah Palin. Going Rogue is the book by Sarah Palin. I haven't the fortitude to read either one of them myself.

Just finished The Large, the Small and the Human Mind by Roger Penrose, Malcolm Longair, Abner Shimony, Nancy Cartwright, and Stephen Hawking. Many of the arguments were beyond my comprehension, and the math left me wishing I had paid more attention in school. In short, the book left me feeling pretty stupid; the way I felt the first time I read Hawking’s A Brief History of Time. But Hawking’s book seems much easier to understand now than when it was first published. Perhaps in another 20 years, if I’m still around (which I doubt), I may start to get a handle on this book.

Perhaps at least one of the books I read this year should be a book on mathematics.

I couldn't find one, so I ended up buying the audiobook from Audible.com for $27.97. An abridged version is available for $25.87, but it seems kind of silly to go that route when for two bucks and a dime more you can have the unabridged version. And as a plus, Chare's narrations are read by a woman (Laurel Lefkow) and Henry's portions are read by a man (William Hope).

If that seems like a lot of money (and it does to me), you may want to try your local library to see if they have the audiobook.

He's still trying to understand the emperor's new mind, but wouldn't we all like to see consciousness explained? For all I know, he may be on to something!

...
Absolutely! It's been my fascination for decades (since I was first a psychology major back in the 70's [or maybe as a result of my 60's experiences ]) and have read so many books on it that my head hurts sometimes when I think about it.

Thanks for the info. I'll pencil it in on my list.

I'm finishing off a book I started on at the end of last year (Surrender of a Siren by Tessa Dare). As soon as I'm done with it, I'm starting on the sequel to that book, A Lady of Persuasion.

Just got Dickens & Simmons 'Droods' cued up on my 700, ready for my 1st 2010reads...also, just procured a bunch of Caitlin R. Kiernan's to add to my TBR list. Told a friend (a MR lurker who recently got a Kindle) about Kiernan & got him hooked to add her to his TBR list.
Thanks to Sparrow for the 'Drood' idea, and to Latexsalesman for Caitlin Kiernan!!!

NO! Please don't! You'll ruin the drivers!

You have to break it in slowly, starting with The Hobbit, and don't read over 50 words a minute for the first 100 pages.

If you start with LotR, your fonts will clog.

Under the Dome for me as well! I still have a backlog of about 20 books but that one stands out.
