I can only surmise that I've done something wrong - if you're talking about LRX files (and not ePub).

The thing that's weird Don is that yours is doing nothing whereas the other people (I think--correct me if wrong) are getting the "Download the EPUB" message when they try it.

Issue of Purchase Date

Perhaps this is what emonti8384 is referring to.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I sent my PRS 500 in for the firmware upgrade and found out that it couldn't be upgraded (it's been a long, painful series of support calls). I was trying to decide whether to have them send it back un-upgraded or get a new reader. While trying to decide, I read somewhere that if I authorized a new device after December 10, it would not be able to read LRX. I've looked and looked for that document and can't find it. The closest thing I found was this from the Reader Store support site:

"Question
What about all the content I already own?

Answer
Content previously purchased will still work with your existing devices (PCs and Readers). However any new devices authorized to your Account will only support the EPUB format."

I KNOW I read that the critical date was December 10. If you got a new device after that date, then upon authorization, it would not be able to read LRX files. It had something to do with the fact that authorization goes through the bookstore and the bookstore now only supports EPUB. Previously authorized devices would not be affected.

I don't know if this is what you're encountering, but it's my best guess.

This is all strange, though, I'm thinking.

All we're really talking about is the ability to have someone read his own LRX files (previously bought and just sitting on the computer doing nothing), and to have those files available to read on a purchased Sony Reader.

Also, it seems absurd - given the paragraph above - to have ONE purchased Reader able to read LRX files, but have the OTHER purchased Reader NOT be able to read LRX files.

Strange Days....as the Doors would say.

It doesn't make sense that there are two different versions of the PRS-600 out there, one that reads lrx and one that doesn't.

If it's any consolation, the Sony website still says that the PRS-600 supports BBeB (Marlin DRM) format.

If there's any veracity to what Itamote reports (from Sony), then it is indeed strange. However, if the report is incorrect, then I've obviously done something wrong.

I'm going to email Sony. I don't expect to hear from them, even if I threaten to return the unit back to Best Buy. However, the possibility of a $269 loss may not bother them one bit. (Who knows, maybe I'll buy a slow nook [my opinion - I've seen it] and just have it shipped over to Peru. If I can't use THAT in Peru, then I'll use it as an expensive "Discussion Ornament.")

So did u ever hear from Sony? What did they say?

Authorization comes from the reader store, so it makes sense all the readers that came after the lrx/epub switchover would not be able to read it, but regardless, you should be getting a message that pops up as soon as you drag the ebook over to ur device and drop it.

I hate how the epub looks, so now that I have my 300 (that doesn't support lrx) I strip it and convert it to lrf so it looks good. So far I'm a happy lady!

Let us know what happened with Sony (plz)

Been busy packing and getting ready to leave.

ALL RIGHT! ALL RIGHT! - Along with the above sentence, I started to read Stephen King's "Under The Dome."

I only planned to read a few screens, to get a taste of what it's like, but DAMN! I couldn't put my ebook down!

This is an incredibly fast-paced read and very enjoyable so far.

Run on over to MobileRead's Book Club area and VOTE for this book. The beginning 30 or so screens are GREAT! (That's all I've read so far.)
