				Well done, Sir Patrick

I was delighted to hear this morning that Patrick Stewart has been knighted in the New Year's "honours list". Thoroughly deserved. A superb actor - I've been fortunate enough to see him in a couple of productions at the Royal Shakespeare company recently - last year playing the title role in "Antony and Cleopatra", and this last summer with David Tennant in "Hamlet".

Patrick Stewart is an actor amongst mere actors. He shares that title with William Shatner. And that is no small praise. I have nothing but the greatest respect for both. It is no coincidence that they both Captained Enterprise. |

"Humankind has just not simply become sufficiently evolved to now leave this planet, take itself out to space and begin establishing more of us out there. I would like to see us get this place right first before we have the arrogance to put significantly flawed civilizations out on to other planets—even though they may be utterly uninhabited."

That comment alone was worth recognition, in my opinion. |

So now Sir Pat can baldly go to the House of Lords. As you say, Harry, a superb actor. Also one heck of a nice chap to all accounts. Cheers. Neil

![]() ![]() That reminds me, what ever happened to the Monty thread? I never quite understood why the producers of Star Trek NG chose such an articulate obviously British Shakespearean actor to play a native born French speaking Frenchman. |

I've liked Stewart in everything I've seen him in except "Dune." That obviously was filmed before he took acting lessons. Or by a truckload of gibbons high on paint thinner laced with viagra.

. What Patrick Stewart does, he does brilliantly - but I wonder if he has the range to be considered a 'great' actor deserving of a knighthood. |

The ultimate challenge for any actor is perhaps Shakespeare, and Sir Patrick is unquestionably a great Shakespearean actor.

![]() I think he is a fine actor; but I don't think he's produced a definitive performance, or pushed back the boundaries of his art sufficiently, to warrant being considered 'great'. But that's just my opinion .
