I hope you've read (or will read) the rest of the Asian series. "Noble House" rates as #2 best for me. "Tai-pan" wasn't so good, but makes a very important foundation for the next two, "King Rat" (excellent! Set in Changi Prison camp in S'pore) and "Noble House" which builds on 'Tai-Pan,' includes some characters from 'King Rat,' and will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering about the outcome!

For me Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow - a long form poem about gangs in LA. Not something I would ever normally read, but it is just splendid.

Oh yeah - those gangs? They are werewolves

A friend of mine P.D. Cacek wrote a similar sounding book set in Denver called Canyons.

Doesn't look like it is still in print. Pity, Sharp Teeth has given me a bit of a taste for werwolves.

One thing to say about it - some buts really were quite unpleasant. It was so nicely written that I didn't really realise, till I read a passage out to my partner because it was so nicely written. She pointed out it was a little... savoury.

I (of course) have a signed copy. but I did check on Amazon after I posted that and it's at least available used.

Unfortunately no e-book.

I have to say "The name of the wind" by Patrick Rothfuss is the best book I've read this year.
I hope I can read the next one soon

Don't know if it's cuz I'm a great SK fan, or he hasn't written an 'epic' for some time & I was wanting one from him, or what...but 'Under The Dome' really hit the spot!!!

(By the way...I'm not reading the rest of this thread, as when I read your 'recomendations', I end up with a whole lot of authors/titles on my WAY TOO LONG TBR list!! You guys just have too many great books to recommend & I just can't do this any more!!)
