2 questions on Sony PRS600

Christmas was tough. Sony's servers were so overloaded I couldn't register until around midnight. There were other problems, too, but now I seem to be up and running. At least, I think so. However, I have two questions:

1. How do I keep this thing charged when I'm away from computers for a month? They only included a USB cable.
2. How do I download books from sites other than Sony's?

Maybe these things are answered in the user manual, which I plan to download today. If so, I apologize in advance for an unnecessary post.

I'm looking forward to reading Rafael Sabatini on my reader -- and that's just for starters.

You can buy a Sony PSP charger, which will charge your Reader through the wall.

And for your second question, where did you want to download from? You won't be able to download books from Amazon or B&N. If you are looking at Mobileread's collection of awesome books, you can use BBeb/LRF or ePub. Another good source is Smashwords, and those options are available there as well. All DRM free! I personally prefer the LRF format, but that's just a personal preference. You can try both and see what you like. You can also take a look at Fictionwise, but I'm not as familiar with that site

For purchasing books you can also try Kobobooks and BooksonBoard

To find the lowest price among many online retailers check these ebook search engines

Inkmesh
Ebookprices
Addall Ebooks

Also, the main formats from online retailers will be ePub and PDF. Certain sites like smashwords will also have LRF (aka BBeB), this format is specific to Sony.

A lot of the online book retailers are just starting to sell books in the epub format. Since Sony has dropped it's prices and become more competitive, they are an easy place to purchase material for your reader. If you find something at another ebook retailer that doesn't offer the ebook you want in a compatible format, you will need to do some converting. It's complicated and to some illegal but it is an option. Just google looking for converting one format to the one you need.

As for a charger, if you are going to purchase one, you might as well go with the Sony ac charger that they sell specifically for your reader. They aren't that expensive and it makes sense to use what they suggest considering your financial investment in your reader.

Good luck and welcome. By the way, tell Dobie I said, "Hi!"

Not knowing what your error message is, it's difficult to troubleshoot. If you can give us a few more details, I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

get a sony PSP charger. any one will do. picked up mine for $10 at target.

sony's software is ok. but be sure to also get calibre, it's far better and more useful, especially when working with managing your growing library of books from many stores.

Do get a mains charger: anything for a PSP will do. The mains charger is quicker and you can read while recharging.

We have a number of Rafael Sabatini books freely available in the MR upload section. Just click on "Ebooks" on the blue bar towards the top of the page. Do a book search on Sabatini. You'll want either LRF or ePub format.
There's lots more Sabatini freely available at Project Gutenberg:
http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/s#a640
Choose the ePub format unless you want to learn how to do a conversion.

You can buy books from anywhere that offers ePub or LRF format. You can buy in other formats if it is legal for you to strip DRM in your area, and if you are prepared to learn how to do this.
