Thanks, Kolenka -
Stupid question: but when you say "authorize the machine to ADE" do you mean my computer or the device? I can't find a way to get ADE to acknowledge my device. Everything I've read said that it will happen automatically and a device registration wizard of some sort will be triggered, but that doesn't happen. Maybe I need to do another restart of my computer. |

Have you installed the Sony software and Adobe Digital Editions? You may need to install Sony first, register your device to their software, then install ADE.

I installed ADE first. When I get home this evening I will uninstall both, and reinstall in your suggested order (sony, the ADE) and see if that triggers something.
Thank you! |

If you have Sony's 3.1 software, and the machine is already authorized in ADE, I'm not sure why you can't authorize the device for ADE via Sony's software.

you need to authorize both your computer, and your reader. go into the sony software. into your account info. scroll down. you should see your computer is authorized and make sure your device is as well. then you can copy over the adobe protected books.

When I setup my mother's 600, I created an Adobe ID for her, installed ADE, registered it with her ID and then plugged in the 600 with ADE running and it asked if I wasted to authorize the 600 so I did and all was well. I did install eBook Library 3.0.x before ADE.

ADE can't authorize a 505/600/whatever on the Mac. That's the problem mteneyck is hitting.

What you have to do ONLY ONCE is use a PC (or Bootcamp) to install ADE, authorize the PC with your Adobe account, plug the Sony reader and authorize it as well. After that, no need for a PC anymore! Your Sony reader is authorized to your ADE account 'forever' and you are safe using your ADE authorized Mac to buy DRMed eBooks and transfer them to the Sony reader using either Sony software or calibre (highly recommended) It does sound more complicated that it is in reality, but still not really seamless, and while I was at it, I learned how to deDRM purchased eBooks, if only to get even with those software publishers (another case where only honest people are hurt by DRM and protection schemes!) Have fun with the PRS! |

Will it be possible to download Google Books via the 3G? I can't seem to find the answer to this. I thought I'd be able to obtain library books that way but that's not possible.
Thanks again, B |

That, I'm not sure anyone's certain about that just yet.
What I know is that if it is in the Sony Reader Store, the 3G will have access to it. If you can get the Google Books from within the Library software, I'd wager that you could. |

woo hoo!!! tbaroghel, your suggestion worked to beautifully to authorize the device to digital editions. now, on my mac, i have been able to easily import the book checked out of the public library onto my prs-600 through the sony reader library software.
collectively you all helped me understand the situation so much better....i'm thrilled. thank you!!! |

Never. And I've had a Reader (of one sort or another) for well over 2 years. I love to read lots of stories and books, and enjoy the fact that the Reader does just that, and isn't another 'connected' device. I have a blackberry and netbook for going online on the go. My Reader is an 'escape' from the internet info overload. And I enjoy the 2-3 weeks of battery life that you will simply not get with a wifi device, which becomes just another PitA device that needs constant recharging and goes dead at the worst moments..

one page view in horizontal mode ?
i looked at the sony documentation, but it is unclear to me if the horizontal mode which is shown only works with a two page view..
does anybody know if it can also be set to a one page view? in that case the higher screen size is perfect |

It can be set to landscape one-column view. It will split the page into 3 parts, rather than the 2 that you get on the 300/50x/600 models.
