From what I've heard -- you either have zero problems with the nook (majority it seems, otherwise we'd be flooded with posts) or it keeps crashing/not working. Could it be attributed to the fact that it boots from the microSD card and it could be faulty or maybe not properly seated or something?

Not that it'd help OP, just thinking out loud.

They won't because that is one of the key components of the device. They will add the cost in somewhere else.

Well for an update.
I gave her the gift, she loves it. Updated properly seems to work pretty good, although you can tell it needs a few things smoothed out.
I notice, but she doesn't so it's all good.

Transitions seem to be a bit "flashy", kinda annoys me. I just don't mean page turns, pretty much anything you do.
And once the adroid system failed to respond.

Some of my thoughts:
The touch screen is a little more responsive than i though it would be.
Buying books was extremely simple.
Didn't seem too many magazines and newspapers, i hope that changes.

My mother got her the kate spade cover (girl in the library on the cover) and i've got to tell you, it feels good in your hand, like a real book.

Only one night of use, so we'll see how it holds up.

If its a defective unit, you shouldn't have to pay ANY restocking fee.

They should either replace with a working unit, or refund the full amount.

Keep us updated on what happens.

AT&T can use firewalls on their end to prevent any TCP/IP traffic from servers other than those owned by B&N.

In other words if you could even get tethering to work you would only be able to surf B&N websites.

Thanks for the update! I only have a Kindle 2 but the Nook looks interesting, especially the color images at the bottom.

I assume your gift reputation is still intact.
