The digital camera my brother bought my mother on behalf of all us? Well it turns out to be an empty box. I'm thinking a certain retailer may be experiencing the rather unconstrained dissatisfaction of my brother today. There may be some crying over spilt blood.

Cheers,
Marc

Oh, crap. Let us know how this works out. I hope the retailer fixes things for you.

Do they still deliver ice in Toronto?

That happened to me with the last cell phone I bought. I waited with anticipation for UPS to deliver it, and when it finally came the box had some of those plastic balloons and an invoice inside.

It took me several hours on the phone to straighten it out, and another week waiting for the "replacement". I'm thinking that a warehouse worker got mighty disappointed when Sprint blocked the ESN!

Omg! That's horrible. That also partially why I checked and charged the batteries in all my gifts before wrapping them this year....

Initially my brother couldn't locate the receipt and you can imagine how he thought that would go. It turns out that the same salesman that served him was there, and even without the receipt his apologetic response to my brother was a sighed "Second one today". It rather deflated my brother's Threat Level, and the empty box was immediately replaced with an appropriately non-empty one.

I could now vent right here about how, unconsulted on this purchase, it is likely to be me trying to educate in the use of said digital camera a woman who can barely use an ATM, but let's leave that for another day, if not an alternate future where it doesn't happen.

Cheers,
Marc

I've still got my freezer, bought second-hand in the 1980s. It has a "made in the GDR" sticker. So it has outlasted the republic that made it by more than 20 years.

Love it!

My Hotpoint brand washer and dryer (which I almost gave up when moving 6 years ago) have been going for 20 years now!

The same thing happens to my husband and I when my parents decide to buy a new techno gadget. The plethora of phone calls and the frustration of trying to explain how to do something long distance is enough to straighten my curly hair! My mom was talking about getting my dad a digital reader for Christmas. I think my emphatic "NO" helped to convince her to go in another direction.

Hang on to them as long as you can!!! When I purchased my Kenmore front load washer and dryer, I though I was getting very durable products that would last at least 10 years. One week after the one year warranty expired, the motherboard on my washer went bad. Thankfully, Sears did repair it but it took much anger and tears on my part to get them to do it. I now have to pay for an extended warranty for both machines to keep them in good working condition. The Sears repairman told me they don't build them like they used to and with all the new digital technology, the darn things are very expensive to repair.

Yep, Kaz I will. My ex has gone through several washers and dryers of newer fancier varieties in the same time period.

Merry Boxing Day!

Argggg! Why isn't anything staright forward anymore?!?! I've got this new scanner that does a great job but getting the scanned book into an exceptable ebook format is causing me to pull out my hair!!!! It would be nice if there were instructions somewhere for lay people. I've started a thread in the Workshop forum and know that I will get excellent advice from many of MR's extremely intelligent members, but right now I'm incredibly frustrated and feel like I've bitten of more than I can chew.

Relax, Kaz. Take a deep breath and chant "ooohhhhmmmmm"

You will "get it" eventually.

Between the members here, and your own smart self, it will happen.....

I think the lack of posting has to do with the after Christmas week......everyone is busy with "stuff"

Saw your posts over there and I'm definitely with on the why does it have to be so complicated thing. I'm a software engineer and the stuff I work with just continues to get more and more complicated and complex and restrictive in how things are required to be done. It makes me crazy almost daily when I try to do some simple task like upgrade a piece of software and suddenly everything changes, I have have new version of compilers and libraries and ..... sheesh

Sorry.....go me off on my own rant I guess.

I'll just say good luck and I'm sure you'll get it with a little help from your (MR) friends.
