What icon should I click on to repsond?

It has now worked just as it claimed.. No error messages..

I launched the script from explorer and it launched K4PC, prompted with the windows save option... It WORKED !@@!!!@!@!@!!@ The book was stored as a xyz.mobi... YES, YES.. I'll be dancing in the streets tonight...

Thanks to all of you that have helped ! Deeply appreciated..

I also apologized to the moderator for posting in the wrong spot... I haven't heard form him for a while....

Unswindle stopped working

Unswindle was working great but now I get Error: failed to determine book PID. I have tried several sample books including a sample of one that I recently bought that unswindle worked on.

I use an old but still handy tool called WnBrowse. It's not an editor at all -- it's a file viewer. It handles ASCII and EBCDIC text and binary files. You can associate a real text editor and hex editor to be called from WnBrowse if you need to edit the file you are viewing. (I like Notepad++ as text editor.) I just started trying and haven't been able to get this to work. I've only tried on free books, though, but have tried on books with file sizes in the Amazon description (read somewhere that usually that means they're not Topaz). Could someone name a free book that's .mobi underneath that should work? I'm starting to get frustrated. I'll buy the darn books only Amazon carries, but not if I can't convert them to my Sony; otherwise, it's back to the Darknet for me ...

I'm getting the unable to determine PID message.

My experience with free books from Amazon has been that they do not have any encryption on them at all. Using explorer, simply rename the free ebook ... ebookname.azw to ebookname.mobi (just change the file extension)

If the Amazon ebook has any associated cost you'll have to use the two pyhton scripts mentioned in this forum.

I then use Calibre to convert ebooks from mobi to epub.

Apparently many of Amazon's free books are in fact already DRM-free. This leads to unswindle not being able to find the PID, what with there not being one and all.

There isn't necessarily a linkage between free and DRM-free in the Kindle Store. Sometimes a DRMed ebook is free as a promotion, e.g. the first in a series. Many of the AZW's produced by Amazon's DTP service (typically small publishers and ebooks direct from authors) are DRM-free, and these are usually relatively low cost but not typically free.

On the Kindle Store web page for DRM-free ebooks, under product details, there should be Simulataneous Device Usage: Unlimited.

As others have said, if and AZW is DRM-free then the original .prc will work "as is" with any MOBI reader (or Calibre). I typically make a copy in a different directory with extension .mobi, but this isn't absolutely necessary.

So I think it's my MobideDrm version that's not working. Can somebody who did the script works, can mp me the good version of all the script ?

For those looking for a book to test this on.

The book I tested the script with was Already Dead by Charlie Huston (free download), book 1 of his Joe Pitt series. When I tried to read it using Calibre, I was told that it was protected by DRM.

After running the script Calibre opened the resultant book and I then converted it to a version I could use.

Thanks for the details on the free books. I'll try with a sample chapter from a non-free book to test, then. I was kind of going out of my mind for a bit there - I followed the instructions from more than one site and it still didn't work! Thanks again.

Do it have a lot of TPZ file in amazon platform ?

In the 22 months I've owned Kindles, I only purchased 3 Topaz books. I buy mostly new releases.
