My CyBook's screen has cracked. I was carrying it my hand (in its case), when I slipped on some ice. No damage to me, but I can only think that my hand must have gripped too tightly when I hit the ground. There's now a nasty little crack to the substrate in the bottom left hand corner. (Which has now spread to the whole screen, not that that makes any difference.)

I shall move over to my Kindle for reading (I have one for testing purposes). I'm not sure that's it's worth getting this one fixed - it's expensive to do so, and this is the second cracked screen we've had. Not that I think there's any particular flaw in the CyBook. Only that glass screen are inherently fragile.

I think I'll wait until screens without a glass substrate become available before I get another ebook reader. Hopefully sometime next year.

Ouch.

Believe me, I know how you feel. The same fate befell my PRS-500's screen. Well except I'm not entirely sure of the circumstances (I don't remember dropping it).

Some idiot locked their bike to mine so I can't use it.

My bike is locked to a pipe in front of my parking spaces in my condo building. No, I hadn't planned on riding it today but it's the principle of the thing.

I've left a note telling them not to do it again and that if it isn't removed soon, I'm going to have the cable cut and the bike move elsewhere.

In the scheme of life it isn't that big of a deal but still, I'm really livid right now.

Two thoughts come instantly to mind: (1) paint the culprit's bike with a can of cheap, ugly spray paint (being careful not to do the same to yours), and (2) leave a note saying how surprised you were to find their bike locked to yours by accident and say that you hope they are feeling better soon and leave a cookie (or flower, etc.) with it. My usual instant thoughts are like (1) if something like this happens to me and they are more like (2) if it has happened to someone else. And I'm not going to recommend one over the other.

I thought of many evil things to do to his/her bike but then I thought, they could do the same to me and things would just escalate until I became story on the 11 o'clock news. I just hope they'll now think twice before doing something so stupid. Did they actually think I wouldn't notice?

Could it possible just be an honest mistake. They may not have meant to loop their chain through your bike? Not sure cause we don't have a pic. Give us a photo!

Does it make any difference?! That's just inexcusable! What were they thinking??
The things people with bikes have to put up with.. There is one in the neighbourhood, it seems thieves couldn't break the lock so they just decided to smash it. Or maybe they didn't even try the lock, just needed a bit of vandalism for their saturday night..

There aren't a lot of options but that's not my problem. I actually have to use 2 cable locks together to reach up to the pipe (which is also very thick).

If this person lives in the building, they should have locked it up in their own parking area or out on their balcony. If they are visiting, their host should take care of it or it should be locked to a railing out in front of the building. Whatever their situation, they should not have locked it to mine.

I'm not saying it's excusable at all, just trying to figure out what would motivate someone to do that (other than revenge or meanness
