Does anyone know of any good, independent review of the cool-er?

i do find it interesting that on this forum, when people ask about what they should purchase, usually as a first buy, no one mentions the cool-er.

In my opinion, (as a cybook gen 3 owner, and cool-er user) I would highly recommend the cool-er as a first time buy. So far, it has proved easy to use, flexible with formats, and unlike my cybook, has not required resetting or sending back to manufacturer.

If I was asked by a first time ebook reader buyer (man, that's not easy to say), I would suggest the cool-er.

technology skills

For me while I find the Cool-er easy to use I think someone less tech savvy might have issues. A lot of people I know are not very good with computers.

In general I don't recommend e-readers to anyone, as I don't know many people who read enough to make it worth their while. At this point I think that unless a person reads more than 1 book a week its probably not worth the cost. For someone like me who can easily read 4+ books a week a e-reader is great.

One of the issues with the Cool-er has been supply. They were out of stock for a while, though you can once again buy them through their website.

On the good side is now that the firmware issues have been resolved its very stable and the design is very much like a ipod, making it a very stylish addition. Hey I won't deny it, I like that my Cool-er looks great! One of my major gripes with the Kindle is how ugly I think it is, though to be fair I have never used a Kindle myself.

Cool-er's customer support has been VERY good. They replaced the Cool-er that I broke, 2 times! So far they get an A+ from me.

The ereader market is still very much emerging and now with all the new players I think that the prices will come down and it will be more accessable to people.

I was very pleased to hear how many Cool-er's sold on QVC recently!

I am also surprised by the lack of Cool-er support here.

To me, this site is the authority on all ereader info. So I'm amazed at the huge gap in the knowledge pool when it comes to the Cool-er.

One of the reasons it might seem as though there's not enough interest in the Cool-er is because it's so hard for us users to find relevant posts! If there were a dedicated Cool-er section, we'd all have a place to talk to each other.

I appreciate that you're trying to be responsive, and I thank you for that, but I sent in at least one suggestions for a Cool-er dedicated sub-forum (probably two but I can't remember), and I never got any acknowledgement or reply.

The Cool-er is a great little ebook reader. It's one of the most easily available in the UK, and one of the more inexpensive.

Please include us!

Even if i'm not aware of such a suggestion i'm sorry that you never go a reply to your suggesition(s). Then again, we have a feedback forum for such requests.

There exists also a thread regarding the Cool-er and other e-ink devices in the feedback forum. May i suggest that all interested people join the discussion there? This forum (which one should i buy?) is definitely the wrong place to discuss requests regarding the forum structure.

I wonder if you could be more condescending in your response. It would take roughly ten minutes to set up a special section for the Cool-er Reader I'm betting. There are roughly fifteen threads at a first glance on this product. Group them properly and do your job.

Second, some sections were created in the past when not so many devices were available. And third, it's a question of interest: How many people own a specific device and how many people are interested in discussing about a specific device here at MobileRead.

Some devices (e.g. devices from sony, amazon, bookeen as well as some older devices) have just more customers than others. Other devices like the nook got a "hype in interest" even before the device was available.

At the moment it seems that there is just not enough interest in the Cool-er (compared to other devices) here to create a dedicated section for it. Please remember: The Cool-er is one of many devices without their own section at MobileRead. It's not a special "Cool-er situation".

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe we would like to group some things like creating subsections? It's nice to know that someone tells us how to do our job, anyway! Thanks a bunch!!

I do think that this is unfair. It's not our "job." We aren't paid: all the moderators are volunteers.
Also, only the siteowner can do the reorganisation. He does have a full-time job with a lot of complications at the moment. It's not so easy for him to find time at the moment.
Another issue is that if we respond by giving a forum section for every single reader then there will be a sprawling forum which will be difficult to navigate. So the moderators have been discussing an overall plan for a revised but workable forum structure. I'm expecting this to involve a section for the Cool-er.

I will try to ignore your attempted personal attack. Sigh.

May i ask you to read my third post in this thread again?

The Cool-er is an ebook reading device with a 6'' E-INK screen and is manufactured by Interead. It was released earlier this year and is based on the Netronix EB 600 (some other devices, eg. Cybook Gen 3, are based on the same platform). You can find more details about it in our Wiki.

It's not an attempted personal attack. I'm involved in lots of sites and setting up subsections/forums takes about five minutes to do. And for the record I have read your bland response.

This is blatantly admin people who can't be bothered or are too arrogant to listen to what people have requested. It is not an issue what the site owner is doing etc. Mobileread has a virtual monopoly on users' attention by virtue of being complete and comprehensive.

If you want compensation for that, it means a different business model. I just think the whole approach has been highly subjective and condescending.

There is a big difference between listening to what people request and implementing everyones individual request. Just because someone puts a request in doesnt mean it will happen (decisions as I understand are made in consideration to every user as a whole and not based on individual users).
