As of this very moment, give or take a few just for windage, it is offically Winter. Can Farking Winter be far behind? Not really. It's supposed to snow like a mother on Christmas Eve and Day around here.

Edmonton came out of the cold snap last week and temperatures have bounced around the 'normal' mark for this time of year (high -7C and low -18C). Currently -13C and light snow falling.
Looks like the entire east coast of North America got pummeled (60+ cm in some places). I've lived in Edmonton for nearly 20 years and have never seen more than 25cm of snow fall in any one day. We tend to get lots of light snow, 5 to 10 cm at time. Got 5 cm Friday night, another 2 or 3 cm Saturday night and looks like we'll get another 5 to 10 cm today and tomorrow. That's pretty typical for here. Snow depth in the middle of my back yard is about 30 cm. My heart goes out to those folks having to shovel 2 feet of heavy, wet snow. At least you all should have a white Christmas. ![]() |

Farking winter starts when winter gets so unbearable that you are ready to walk away from your home and possible family to move to the tropics. Around here usually about 31 Oct.

For Christmas Day we are expecting "Mostly fine, 29" (29C/84F). Basically the same as every day for the last month, and ever day for the foreseeable future (by which I mean the next few months - my foresight is myopic).
It's sunny, humid, warm. We're currently planing and sanding boards, fixing them down with coach screws, oiling them, then rolling into the pool. "Rolling into the pool" will, of course, be the overall theme for the summer. No rain. No real storms 'cept over the hinterland. They're suggesting possibly not until late February will we get proper (if shortened) storm season. Some proper summer downpour rain would be nice. |

Woke up to sheet ice everywhere, courtesy of an overnight chill. Then we had some light rain. Which nicely lubricated the skating rink roads and pavements (sidewalks). Then we had torrential downpour for an hour or two which eventually washed away the ice. Then we had some nice sun (albeit briefly). Then we had a hail shower which covered everything in lethal ball-bearings. Now we have thunder and lightning.
How does that Crowded House song go again? |

We're about to get hit with KennyC's storm. (Thanks!) Up to a foot of snow, covering 1/4 inch of ice. Farking winter.
