Ah.

You see, this hadn't actually been mentioned. I don't (and won't) have a Kindle, and I was fully expecting it to work like the Amazon website (which I don't think is an unreasonable expectation), in that when you hit buy your card's already credited and if you'd ordered software, tough luck on cancelling.

Scratch that complaint then.

scveteran - Yes, but by Amazons standard, it's 30 books ever, unless their policy has changed. This is why written returns policys are good, and bluntly if there are serious flaws I don't care anyway - I have a legal right to return the book, and when I have to anticipate having to take legal action to do so...at some point (even a decade down the line), well, it's offputting. When the store is so tightly integrated? It's a blocker.

I have a feeling that if ten years from now (keeping in consideration that I have already had an Amazon account for almost 10 years) my accumulated book return rate hits 30 (it's at -0- now), Amazon will work with me.

you... not so much

Erm, they've closed the Amazon accounts of people who made hundreds of orders per year for "excess returns"? Given that, seems to me you're trying to sound smug and it's not working.

Look, if there's solid evidence they're behaving acceptably I'll back down in an instant once I actually know about it, but Amazon do not have a good record. It's not in the same sort of terrible ballpark as say Ebay/Paypal, but it's not good either.

Corporate behaviour has given us DRM and regional restrictions, want to defend those? No, it needs to be called, and I freely admit I go out my way not to patronise companies doing that sort of thing! (I do patronise Baen a lot, and I buy a lot of books second hand because the alternate is DRM'ed ebooks)

I buy the Baen "Webscriptions" package each month, and that alone is typically 6 or 7 books (including at least 4 new ones).

Scratch that complaint then.

When you use one-click on the Amazon site the very next screen states that you have either 30 or 60 minutes to edit your order. So, if you accidentally order that software you have a fixed time period to edit or cancel your order.

Well of course you can't answer, you didn't like my answer (because it wasn't the party line). I'm SO SORRY I want a written policy on returns, omg!

Fair warning at this point - if you make another personal attack like the last one, you're going on ignore for being a corporate shill.

TallMomof2 - Ah. Wasn't as of two years ago when a friend accidentally did an order (when he intended to wishlist). Is that for physical goods, or software as well?

AFAIK, it's for everything. And I just made a one-click purchase so the time to edit is 30 minutes. To delete an order entails clicking through a few screens but it's easy enough to do.

I'm in the US so I don't know for sure if Amazon.uk is the same.

Interesting, ty. (I have one-click order off and don't see that on Amazon.co.uk, or I didn't when I last ordered...hm, almost 6 months ago now. Been using Abe books)

Certainly a step in the right direction anyway

it wasn't a personal attack. it was to point out that with your rather acerbic attitude you're bound to end up not being treated well by anyone.

I'm about as far as they come from a corporate shill.

it's nice out here on the ignore list!
