Sony 505 and Windows 7 32bit and 64bit

All

I came across the following website and downloaded the latest version of the Sony Reader software which is designed for Windows 7 32/64bit

This version works a treat and over comes the problems I had with V2.5 of the software and trying to install that version on my copy of Windows 7

The link to the page is below.

Yeah, I have Windows 7 installed and installed the Sony eBook library and it started up fine, but the PRS-500 won't work until they get a firmware fix out for it.

From the download page:
Quote:
Using the PRS-500 with Windows 7 operating system or 64-bit versions of Windows Vista operating system will require a firmware update for the PRS-500.

Note: To be notified when the update is available please email us at feedback@ebookstore.sony.com with "PRS-500 Update" in the subject line.

can't you just run the Elibrary with Virtual Windows XP? You can install any old copy of XP in virtual PC's, I installed the same copy 5 times over (on different PCs).

If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate you can install it in XP mode.

THat said, the newest version 3.0.1 is supported on Windows 7.

You just have to uninstall the old version then delete all the app data and config data folders it leaves behind before you install the new version.

Windows 7 and PRS -505

For those having issues opening the Sony E-reader library- mine would not open after installing the software, this link gives directions on how to activate it through the Data Prevention Execution for Vista. I have Windows 7 Premium and it worked as well. <http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1002268>

This worked for me. Thanks!

Version 3.1 of the Reader Library software was crashing upon being launched with Windows Vista 64-bit. It now runs fine after following the steps outlined in the Sony knowledge base article.

if you are having trouble installing software, bypass software and go to sony website and install directly from website. If that does not work, call 877-263-2863 and they can install directly to your computer for you. They did for me.

I know this is an old thread. But I just want to say that Reader Library does work fine on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. My mother runs that on her laptop and Reader Library has no issues there at all.

To be honest, I think most issues with Reader Library are due to dodgy software installed on the computer. The way to find out is to stop everything from running that isn't part of the OS so that when you boot, you have nothing running that isn't part of the OS and then try Reader Library. If it then works, you know something you've installed is at fault.

It runs on my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 HP desktop too. But it would never recognize my PRS-950 although it did recognize my PRS-350. But that is probably a driver issue, nt that I care anymore since I sold the 950.

JSWolf's idea can work, but if you are like me and have hundreds of things running on your PC then plan to spend a week or three restarting your PC to find which one is the problem. It is a very slow process unless you get really lucky.
