maybe you should even pack *2* scarves. also i recommend a good warm hat, some gloves, and wool socks. definitely.

it's not snowing at the moment (i think) but they've announced more snow overnight and possibly even more in the next few days. i went out for a walk along the canal, which turned out to be a good idea because there was quite a lot of it left there, although the canal is not at all frozen. here are some photos.
Actually, 22°C is considered cool here I'm just glad the rain came; too late for a number of houses that burnt down due to bushfire..

Don't know about the Thalys, but the overnight train Paris/Venice just has a passport check - hand your passport to the train conductor and s/he returns it in the morning.

Looking out of my window, lotsa snow. This being England, another hour of this and there will be panic buying followed by general traffic paralysis as late-shoppers meet early-returning commuters. I estimate the first reports of cannibalism will start around 18:00 GMT.

22C is cool? My official melting point is 25C. I can shovel snow for two hours at -30C (even -40C if no wind whatsoever) but if I tried to work outside in the garden at +30C for two hours I'd be a puddle of primordial goo.

We're getting "seasonable temperatures" which means 18 F for a low and 28 F for a high. Somewhere in the neighborhood of -7 and -3 if I remember the formulae for conversion. Which I don't.

I thought it was a good time to bring out the English to Metric conversion chart again. So today is between a cold day in Boston and Snow! for the high.

21C is our coldest, monthly average for daily maximum temperature (in July). It's also our December average for daily minimum temperature (January & February step up a notch to 22C). Right now, just after midnight, it's 23C (humidity 82%).

Cheers,
Marc

It's cold for Virginia at this time of year ~ 26 F. The forecasters have upped our expected snow count from 5 inches to 6-12 inches. My parents are currently under a tornado watch in Naples, FL. This is has already been one strange fall/winter.

Gee - 21C is almost our warmest monthly average for daily max. June average high is 21, July and August are 22. Remind me to gloat next July when you are shivering in 21C temperatures and we are basking in 22C temperatures.

PS - Note to pshrynk about the metric guide: I can prove that spit doesn't go 'clink' at -40. It can't make it through the ice-encrusted beard.

We did our panic buying earlier in the week

Well, actually, it was our normal shop done a couple of days early partly because we won't have time this weekend, and partly because everyone else will be panic buying (snow plus Christmas = shopping like it's the end of civilisation)

It's now 27 degrees Fahrenheit and hazy. It makes a very nice change from below-zero weather!

I'm half-tempted to go put shorts on...

And it gets worse: according to the BBC they've reportedly cancelled all Saturday trains.
