they don't take "collections" like these, they can't handle them space wise
if you two would put your heads together and let me know, I'll do the legwork! once again, the size is stopping them yeah, you'd think that would be the case huh? absolutely not! the Women's Prison here is privately run though and I have a call into them. I also have calls into several of the Tribal Offices, but I'm getting a bunch of goose eggs |

I gave up trying to find local entities that would take and use my old books so I have since either shipped them to a group who distributes them in Africa (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17422) or else dumped them in a recycle bin. I don't think Reader's Digest books are what they are looking for. On the other hand, maybe someone who wants to do one of those crazy book art things (where they cut the book up and do something creative with the remains like this: http://centripetalnotion.com/2007/09/13/13:26:26/ ) might be interested.

When I was a kid I had a great aunt who used to send me "Reader's Digest Condensed Books" every birthday and Christmas. They are terrible - a book "condensed" to a quarter of its original size. Do the world a favour and burn them! Honestly - if you want to read a great book, read the original, not these.

I suppose their goal is "worthy" enough - to let people "read" great literature who don't have the time to read the originals, but, to my mind, they fail miserably. When you read a "condensed book" you're reading someone else's re-telling of the story. I think the whole concept is flawed.

Condensed books were rarely "classics" but a condensation of a best seller or popular book of the time. Lots of dreck, actually.

And they could whet some appetites for the real version. Classics Illustrated did it for me.

Borrow an SUV.
Tell the fam that you have been contacted by a collector and he wants to see the collection. Drive to the nearest landfill (alone). Well, they are Reader's Digest Condensed books, make that the nearest Hazardous Waste Site. Throw them out with extreme prejudice. Drive back and tell the fam that the collector was able to take them, but that they weren't of any great value, so you just donated them to him. Take a Valium and try to get through supper without screaming out your guilt. |

We have a thrift store for the disabled down here, it's called Seagull Industries. They seem to take lots of crap. They jumped at my old 1990s Simpsons comic books.
