Someone posted a great video on how to use a round about. I think it might have even been in this thread.

In the US no one knows how to use them... even though they would be safer than your typical 4 way stop if everyone used them correctly. Since no one really knows how to use them they become more dangerous.

Back in my former hometown, the city government once had the bright idea to cut down accidents by posing signs at high accident intersections announcing the fact. So drivers would me motoring down the street, see a sign that said "Warning! You are now approaching the third highest accident intersection in the city" and <panic stop!> <crash...>

It's not really a large roundabout in the middle of the map.

The map actually shows six small roundabouts connected in a circle by some very short roads.

You can tell it's not a real roundabout in the middle by the fact that traffic moving around the centre island does not have the right of way. On a real roundabout, the traffic moving around the centre of the roundabout has right of way over other traffic.

some genius in the roads planning department decided that putting up signs for the round-abouts (which have become all the rage in WA State... go figure) is important. and these signs direct you to a website for round-about driving information!

Ah yes, European "watch the road" vs American "watch the signs" driving.

I can understand the map, but I'd never be able to figure it out while DRIVING on it. As a whole, I like the UK's round-abouts and the very good signage on them.

Noosa has something like 35 roundabouts, and 3 sets of traffic lights (I think 2 of them are pedestrian traffic lights, at schools).

People have been complaining that the roundabouts are insufficiently signposted for the large tourist influx. For instance, a three-exit roundabout might have a sign marking one of your available exits "Noosa Heads", and the other "All Other Destinations". This is thought to be confusing.

However, somewhere I recently read that too many signs at intersections can (in very general terms) lead to an increase in accidents, as people are trying to figure what exit to take/where to go, and not paying sufficient attention to the traffic. I'm wondering if this is what's behind the "All Other Destinations" thing.

Regardless, it tickles me, that "All Other Destinations" thing...like if you take that exit, then the universe is your marine bivalve mollusc.

I think I might write a poem called "All Other Destinations"...

Why is it we hear of all these issues with heath care and how expensive it is and how people aren't covered any longer and cannot afford to get sick and yet the republicans don't care one whit about the uninsured?

Why is it that so many of the people who see this "problem" want to solve it with my money? Why don't you use your own first. Then we can discuss mine.

I thought we were supposed to leave politics out of MR. The new posting guidelines specifically stated that discussion of politics was better left to another forum.

Well, it's all politics really, isn't it. Stop signs and neighborhood committees, health care, economy...
