@Teka
Regaring GPS, can you try using OziExplorerCE - "http://www.oziexplorer.com/". I have used but it appeared to work. But not have really tested as there are no maps for my country AND You are right GPS is very sensitive. Regarding CAB File the problem (this what i belive and i could be worng!!) is that the Installation should be buit for ARM processor. I am to trying to find how can applications be ported. Have posted that question in the same thread still waiting for someone to help out. ColdSun has been nice enough to share some application probably you can check his website. "http://www.coldsuncreations.com/Reviews/09-11-29/W1060_7-inch_MID_from_WireLession_-_Review.aspx" Regarding SkyFire for WinCE i read some one has posted some WinCE Version "http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=127681" I have one question from where did you download and install CorePlayer 1.3.2, if you could share it would be great. I have been search for this for quite sometime. Had even posted one message to CorePlayer by they never responded back. |

I ended up buying Comic Reader Mobi and it installs just fine
I purchased coreplayer. i think the latest version is 1.3.6 , i havent updated but im pretty sure it'll run just the same or even better Skyfire just released version 1.5 which adds WVGA support which would work great for our device if we could get it working... |

@Tekka,
Thanks for the short review, you may have answered my question about the usb host. I was hoping to be able to use a USB hub for multiple device, but apparently it dosn't even reconize most device. I too will be traveling in a few months and was hoping to us Skype on this device (hence the usb hub for usb earphone mic and usb cam) Also, thanks for the suggestion of coreplayer. When I get mine, ill be uninstalling the default players from my device. I think it was serwei that suggested a software that was like a codec for mobile device that could play .MKV files. Here is the link he suggested: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/dl/tcpmp.html. @Anyone: If anyone would test out this application and let me know how it does with coreplayer, I would appreciate it. Also, I've never used Opera or Skyfire, could someone give me a short review on which one is better? As long as I'm able to go to most sites and watch youtube videos that would be great. Even better if i could play W.o.W on it but I would be asking too much, lol Last edited by Dvalin21; 12-15-2009 at 02:57 PM. |

Can someone post the software (most importantly the GPS software) that came with the A81 on the SD card? I formatted my SD card when I upgraded the firmware and neglected to backup the software before hand. - Thanks!

Does anyone know if the RDP client was included in the WinCE 6.0 build that is on the A81? I can't seem to find it.

my A81 experience
I got mine in the mail yesterday, it only took 10 days to get it from China (I'm in Utah) which is great. I bought it thru JTShop at http://www.jiongtang.com/shop/ti-oma...nce-p-178.html for $209, it's now $210 plus $39 shipping. I didn't get the GPS as we already have a TomTom and I assumed there'd be difficulty getting US maps to work.
Mine came with a nice soft-sided case with a mesh pocket on one side and restraining straps for the A81 on the other. It also included some mysterious metal frame with sticky material on two sides, I guess it might be intended as a car mount. It came with AC and DC chargers and an adapter that takes the mini USB to a full-sized USB plug so you can plug any USB device or cable into it. From the above posts it might be that some of this was included free by the vendor. @imaredr There's a new freeware version of Freda that claims to support epub books but I haven't played with it much. @all If this is like the Archos at all, the USB host feature will require an externally powered USB device. My 605 will only work that way it hasn't seen much use in months. @dvalin21 The link to sourceforge and the TCPMP is just the older free version of coreplayer. I haven't played with it yet but it should work well except for newer codecs since it was last updated. Also, I wish it would recognize my network as that was my plan as well, to use it as a portable player to stream content from my PC. They may fix this in an update or I may just not know how to do this, but it won't see any of my PCs and they are running XP and Vista respectively. I've had difficulty getting most videos to run on the A81, media player just refuses to recognize many of them and even FLV which is supposedly supported is unrecognized by the players on my A81. For ebooks there are a few good readers but the player might be a bit too heavy to hold for long periods of time. You can use the kickstand of course but this feels a good deal heavier than my Sony reader. Web browsing is too frustrating to do for long and now the keyboard won't come up so I can type in an URL, which is beyond frustrating. I still have high hopes for this device but for now I don't mind putting it away until it's officially mine on Christmas Day. |

I just checked the vendor's forum and they now state that Android will be "next month or later". There is a version of Android that might work since the A81 also has the Texas Instruments OMAP3 Cortex processor but I'm not sure I'm confident enough to try installing it. I should have mentioned mine also came with a 2gb micro-sd card, that might be true in all cases but I'm not sure.

download speed
I've just received my w1060 today. when I try to test the download speed, the maximum it can get is 20KB/s . Can somebody test theirs and see what they get for the maximum speed? It also sometimes pop up something like "cannot receive the dhcp".

![]() Also, I had problems with certain videos and framerates, and others (all AVIs) ran perfectly fine. I believe it was how the videos were encoded that makes a difference. I'm going to investage that further. As far as MKV goes, I haven't been able to get one to work yet, but they say support for that is coming soon. All of that aside, I'll figure out the video issues, and the device is still the highest quality 7" MID I have tried. The biggest downfall to me, and something I can't understand, is the sluggishness of internet explorer and the internet on this thing that is supposed to be the same inside as the Archos 5 Android. If you want just an ebook reader period, and don't mind a slower page turning speed, the JE-100 is a wonderful device. I've had a great experience reading on this thing though. It feels durable and the metal stand in the back has come in very useful for all kinds of reading (I even open it sometimes and slip it between my fingers when I carry it around in order to grasp it securely). If I could just get the internet to work better. I'm looking forward to comparing the new SmartV7 to the W1060/A81. Now that I have a V7 here for review it will be an interesting week. One thing I do like about the Q7/V7 build (even though it is definately lower quality), are the buttons on the device. When applications allow custom key binding, those buttons can become VERY handy. |

Im currently at the Las Vegas Airport with my A81 MID and have been playing with it for the past few hours.
-i'm using Coreplayer 1.3.6 to play mostly Xvid encoded videos, not sure what the bitrates are but here are examples of what kind of videos i have been watching Anime- standard Dattebayo 175MB Bleach episodes TV Series - 350MB Fringe and Heroes episodes Movies -700MB-1200MB Zombieland dvdrips -i cannot get skyfire 1.5 to even launch - Still cannot figure out how to charge the device by USB port... How did you accomplish this ColdSun!?! - i did more testing with the usb port and most of my usb flash drives did not work. The wireless mouses which have super tiny recievers and are battery powered works great. Will build a cable with 5V when i get back to confirm. - Gonna try to see if TOMTOM 7 will work on this device since i heard it will run on CE 4.2 -I'm having problems waking this device form standby, sometimes it just gives me a white screen waking up and I have to turn off the device and turn it back on. -Also can you tell us how you were able to install Skyfire on this thing??? I'm gonna try to take some videos and pics to show you the results of movies playing on the device Last edited by Tekka; 12-16-2009 at 01:11 AM. |
