Search Functionality on PRS-300

Still trying to decide on a reader and have a question for 300 owners.

I know some think it's too small, but after playing with a display model, I thought it was pretty awesome... and the size was a big factor in that. Yes, a little less screen real estate, but thinking on carrying it around with me, the portability thanks to its size is a huge plus for me!

Sorry for the preamble, my question is, does it have any search functionality? I'm thinking if I buy a travel guide or something that is quite large but isn't a linear read like a novel, how easy/difficult will it be to move around? You'd want to be able to search for the name of a hotel or particular attraction etc, not have to page through with only a table of contents.

I've not had a reader before, so this may be a stupid question. My apologies if so.

Unfortunately no. There is no way to enter text without a keypad/keyboard or touchscreen. Using the 5-way controller to enter text would be extremely cumbersome. So Sony opted to exclude the search feature.

BTW: A travel guide would probably be a very big file due to the large number of images. Large files tend not to do as well on the PRS-300 as it takes a long time to open them and to navigate within them. No problems with most eBooks, but really large ones can slow he Reader way down.

Thanks for that. Hmmm, that's definitely something to consider then. I assume the 600 would have a faster processor and be better able to handle larger books? I know it has the search function with the virtual keyboard. ...Then again, for how many books of that nature I'd buy, I guess could stick with dead tree books.
