I really hate to answer to this thread as I find the first post insulting on several levels, but just to answer neilmarr's and desertgrandma's question, google says SHMBO is She Who Must Be Obeyed.

Thank you.
I hope those searching for a new device will also look at the many positive posts about the 600 and decide for themselves. |

The OP obviously didn't like it; equally, many people here do. As it appears to be a matter of personal preference, then first hand experience is probably the only way to be sure. |

I like my PRS600 - considering it's a touchscreen I am happy with the quality of the screen.
Maybe the one you tested wasn't ok??? |

I recently bought the PRS600 and have found the screen to be very good. That said I tend to use it under relatively bright artificial light conditions.
It seems to me that the contrast of the text is proportional to the external light that the device receives. If you don't give the device enough light, the reflections will overpower the text. I was on the fence for a long time on this reader, but if I had to do it again, I'd buy it again - heck, I have even used the dictionary on at least two occasions whilst reading The War of the Worlds. Love the reader. It is just so convienent. RobP |

I own a PRS-505 for a year now and last weekend I saw a 600 in a shop. I tried it out for a while and the screen seemed ok for me, so I ordered one.
Sure, if you see the 505's screen next to the 600's, the 505 is better, but the 600 screen is not so bad at all and I can sacrifice a bit of the display quality for the touchscreen and integrated dictionary. |
