New MR feature: Ignore Thread

Many of you've requested this and my apologies for taking so long: the ability to ignore selected threads from showing on your forum listings as well as from searches. We wanted to make sure to implement it in such a way that it scales well without causing potential server hiccups. That's often more difficult than it sounds.

Why would you want to ignore a thread? Perhaps because it deals with a kind of discussion you don't feel very comfortable with. Or, because it's a kind of thread that always shows up on your screen again - maybe it's a very active one that gets constantly bumped - despite the fact that you aren't really interested in it.

To ignore a thread, use the "Thread Tools" menu as depicted in the screenshot.

And as you can always ignore threads, you can also selectively "unignore" them again, using your User Control Panel.

One caveat: In a forum, when a post is being made in thread that is on your ignore list, the forum icon could indicate that there's a new, unread post, but obviously you won't see it. This is not really a biggie, but I thought to let you know. We may look into this sometime later.

Sorry if I'm asking something obvious, but is there a way to ignore a whole forum? For example, I would like to ignore all german language boards for obvious reasons. Is it possible?

Yes, you find the it within your control panel. You need to scroll down the list of options to the part where it says "Forum Exclusion".

FYI, if you have subscribed to a thread by making a post in it, new posts to that thread will still appear in your User CP section "New Subscribed Threads:" even if you have selected to ignore it. Just "unsubscribe" from the thread and it won't show up.

Alex, that solution doesn't work for me. It may work and I simply don't understand how it works, but even though I have indicated I only want English language, when I log in and ask for new posts in the past 24 hours, I still get non-English language posts.

Is it because I'm asking for posts and threads rather than forums? (Probably, now that I think of it.) Anyway, what I would find useful is the ability to exclude not just forums but non-English threads (I'm that typical American who can only converse in non-English English).

EDIT: Alex, another thought. What might be a good way to solve my problem would be if I could simply choose to ignore a thread from the main thread listing, that is, from the main listing of posts without actually opening the thread and then choosing to ignore it.
