I quite liked the clock in the new update but page turn speed comes first!
Poor Robertb. Here he tries so hard to give people what they want, and they STILL aren't happy with it. *Sigh*

His hands are somewhat tied by the fact that he's dependent on how much time a Taiwanese programmer is allocated. Perhaps what needs to be done is for Astak to help the OpenInkPot project with the GPIO mappings, etc. and then help grow that firmware.

From what I have read, supposedly the driver is already written, but they don't have the mappings yet.

RobertB did give it a great try. Jinke really needs to give their mods a good shakedown to be sure that some of these issues are not there. A tiny hit in performance because of the clock was expected.

The HUGE hit just to add volume control to the jog wheel
I can live without the Music if I can keep the Zoom steps.
More speed when changing size, would be nice

What do you expect if you inflict 10 second page turns on people?

Looks like this is one 'upgrade' I might skip. Someone else was asking if there's any changes that make it worth upgrading (other than the few mentioned so far). Once again this demonstrates the need for a FULL change list accompanying each firmware upgrade. The lack of this list, plus the introduction of bugs and performance issues is starting to make it look like Jinke's software quality control is quite poior.

First of all thanks to Aztak for listening to customers so closely and publishing a firmware regularly.

I personally liked the new clock and nine level zoom; these are good changes. If only epub files would not take that long to open. New languages are also welcome, although I don't use them. I felt like a small minus point is the duration of font size changes; but have to check again.

I must be one of the lucky ones (at this current point in time). I have not noticed any speed issues with .epub files, both generated using Calibre and purchased .epubs.

I have noticed an increase in start up time and time to change the font sizes. It does seem to be ebook specific as it is much worse on some books but barely noticeable on others. I am afraid, I too, down graded.

I also have problems with the update. I have to reset my PPro 2-3 times because it freezes. I like the last one better I think I'll go back with that one....

Hello Rxsz. Welcome to the forum!

Did you find a copy yet? I tried uploading the previous one to this forum but unfortunately the attachment size is limited to 20MB for rar files.

I would suggest keeping copies of all previous firmware in a separate folder (not in the reader). This way you can always reinstall one if need be.

Astak currently has both the September and December updates on the Astak site. The December one only is on their EZReader site. It seems strange they have kept the September one and don't have the better November one up anywhere.

I am sure support@astak.com would kindly provide a copy of the "20091105" for you. They are a good company with excellent customer support.

Thank you Javed, but no, haven't had any files or pointers to ftp sites yet. Too bad it is such a huge file.

Yup, lesson learned. Archive all firmware offerings. It was just that I received the Pocket Pro but a couple of days before the new firmware's posting and had no idea that they would pull previous versions.

Ok, I went back to the previous firmware version and compared page turn and ebook loading now that more people are mentioning the speed, slightly slower on the newer firmware (only noticeable for me now that I was looking for a difference).

The BeBook site has still not put up the latest Jinke firmware release for the V5 yet, so you can still get the previous release from their web site.
