Yesterday... for the very first time ever... someone asked me if my Kindle...

... was a nook!

Actually he asked if it was that B&N thing.

I think the skin I have on my Kindle confused him (black with soft dark gray Fleur de Lis sprinkled sparsely about - men think it has something to do with the New Orleans Staints football team - silly men).

He told me his wife had been using someone's Kindle for a while but they had to take it back. Now she's in to ebook readers and wants a nook. I gave him impressions based on my test in the store. I suggested that his wife do the same thing since she's used a Kindle she can make a fair comparison.

I have to say I'm impressed that the word on the nook is traveling this quickly.

Why didn't you just answer "Yes"?

I'm surprised too that "nook" is becoming something like a synonym for ebook reading devices. On the other hand, "kindle" is also often used in the same manner.

Yeah, but you can use the Kindle for a month, reading free books (there are more than a month's worth, even excluding the public domain stuff) and return it for a full refund if not satisfied.

Nook has a 10% restocking fee if opened, plus only a 14 day return period.

I dont disagree. My point is that people have more exposure to the nook than the Kindle. All you have to do it walk into a B&N and bam! You can look at one.
No so with the Kindle

I think Kindle has the best chance. Especially if Amazon lets more devices access the Kindle store.

But time will tell.

indeed. on my last flight when the security screeners were telling people how to get their stuff through security (I guess there are a lot of cherry travelers over the holidays), they were saying to have their laptops, and "any other electronic device larger than a Kindle" out of carry on luggage
