Not at all IMO. We still have a 500 in service, but the 300 has a much clearer screen, and I like the slightly smaller (pocketable) form factor. The smaller screen hasn't affected the reading experience at all. Although I will admit, I had to cave and shell out $$ for the Sony cover to make me really happy. The pouch didn't cut it, and I hate those covers with the cheeezy corner straps.

Since I use the MP3 player and an SD card to hold the MP3s on my PRS-500, the PRS-300 would be a downgrade. It is cool because you can listen to an MP3 "podcast" of a lesson and follow along in the book at the same time. I was doing that for a time with some online Latin lessons. The PRS-500 Reader ain't just for reading.

For my reader, or my wife's.

I'll be calling their customer disservice department tomorrow.

I myself had a pretty good experience.

They got my reader on last Monday, and received it back on Friday. The only glitch I had was that the work order number for some reason changed after they received my PRS-500, but when I called them they updated my status over the phone. I did have to wait for quite a while on hold though.
