I'm reading "Homicide in Hardcover" (in paperback, LOL) by Kate Carlisle, which is a cozy mystery about book collecting and binding. Ever since I read "The Man Who Loved Books Too Much" I can't get enough of books about books.

When I got up this morning decided to read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, finished it, loved it. Made me cry!

Can you suggest some good books about books? Perhaps not quite so much the 'cozy mystery' genre though...

Didn't Jorge Luis Borges write one about a library? Okay, I just checked and the book I'm thinking of is called The Library of Babel, I think. I haven't read it but I'll add it to my wishlist

NPR's On the Media's show about books a few weeks ago had a segment on "The Man Who Loved Books Too Much."

http://www.onthemedia.org/episodes/2009/11/27

The podcast for the entire program is at the top of the page and links to the individual segments are below that.

The part about the man who loved books too much is the segment called 'For The Love of Books'.

Ooh I'll have to check it out. Hopefully they have a podcast of it.

Sure can! You can check out John Dunning. He has a short series (with a mystery bent, with some action) about an ex-cop who now deals in rare books. If you've read any Lee Child books, the writing style is similar. The first one is called "Booked to Die." If you are looking for non-fiction, definitely try "The Man Who Loved Books Too Much." I really enjoyed that.

I also just picked up "The Secret of Lost Things" by Sheridan Hay at the bookstore, but I can't speak for it since I haven't read it yet

Have you read "The Historian", by Elizabeth Kostova? I read it a few years ago, and enjoyed it very much.

I Just finished _The Pillars of the Earth_ by Ken Follett. I'm not quite sure how to classify this book. It wasn't a mystery nor fantasy nor science fiction nor thriller. However it was an epic story and struggle of good (or were they) vs evil (or where they).

I give this book 4.5 of 5 stars. It is a book you won't want to put down. It will make you feel good and it will make you feel sad. It will make you smile and it will make you cry.

Highly recommended, read it.

BTW: I found out this was a Oprah's book club selection... so many people say the books she picks are terrible... now I am going to take that statement with a grain of salt.

Guess I will start _Murder Must Advertise_ now, the December selection for the Mobileread Book Club.

I finished Great Tales From English History: The Truth About King Arthur, Lady Godiva, Richard the Lionheart, and More by Robert Lacey. I have always loved history and this book recounts important events, great attrocities and funny annecdotes from the early English history.

Anybody show is interrested in history, especially English history, should read this book. The writer manages to put a lot of things into perspective by showing simularities between then and "now". He also tries to tell the story from multiple sources.

I'm looking forward to the second book: Great Tales from English History: Joan of Arc, the Princes in the Tower, Bloody Mary, Oliver Cromwell, Sir Isaac Newton, and More

Thanks for the tip. I am trying to use up some micropay because I am trying to be less tied to Fictionwise and the clunky eReader in the new year, so I picked up both of these. I used the thoughts25 promo code which still works, and was able to pay with micropay (i.e. did not have to use credit card). Total cost for both books was $17.17 and total rebates were $11.16. Since I paid with micropay in the first place, the total cost was actually zero, but even assuming you count that as 'money' the rebates brought the cost down to $6.01, or about $3 per book. Good deal!

If *Pillars of the Earth* was up your street, PilotBob, you'd love Follett's recent follow-up, *World Without End*. It's set in a slightly later period but picks up on some of the threads and characters in the earlier work. Highly recommended. Cheers. Neil

I am not an Oprah fan (I don't DISlike her, I'm just not a fan), but some of her books club picks have been fantastic. My favourites are "Middlesex" (Eugenides), which is one my favourite books in general, and "I Know This Much is True" (Wally Lamb). I am thinking about picking up the "Edgar Sawtelle" book.

Superb book - one of my favourites. It has a sequel, "World Without End", set in the same city, 200 years later, which is also well worth reading.

Thanks for that Bob. It is on my list and this moved it up a notch. As far as Opera, I don't know but I read a couple of stories in "Say You're One of Them" and they were awful. didn't bother reading more....
