Epub coming to the Sony Store on 11 December

No problem here (thank goodness) except it reformates all my old LRF books upon first opening and changing font size which takes a while. Not sure if I'll leave all of my old one's in LRF for now, I like the format better.

That is exactly the route I took, and everything is working fine on my Vista PC. (Now that I've added the DEP exception because they changed the name of the program from "eBook Library" to "Reader Library".)

I have two Readers - a 300 and a 505.

Strange behavior as follows:

So evidently there's something about the 505 that the Library software doesn't like. Version of the 505 software is 1.1.00.18040. Version of the 300 software is 1.0.00.18160.

So my hypothesis is that I need to upgrade the 505 software. Or rather, downgrade it judging from the numbers.

But I can't seem to locate 1.0.00.18160 - anyone got a clue?

UPDATE: It wasn't the software. Sony Support says that the 300 software won't work on the 505.

I made sure that I had everything copied off the 505, then did a hard reset which solved the problem with Library. Then I went into the Store, reauthorized the 505 - which required that I reauthorize with ADE as well.

As long as I was messing around, I pointed my calibre library at the location of the Sony book files. Then I put an alias to that file on my desktop, and one in my download folder, so that from now on, all my books, articles &c are going into the same folder. It will be interesting to see what calibre & Library do with them.

Has anyone worked out how to stop the Sony library opening every time you plug in your actual reader? I was merrily working in Calibre then plugged in my 505 to transfer some books and everything hung while the Sony software opened up. I've looked in Preferences and tried Properties but can't see anything useful.

Yes, if this is not in our Wiki it should be.

Sony installs a Reader Launcher software on your system. If you open your Task List you will see it. Stop that app.

To ensure it never starts you need a program like auto-runs to remove it from your registry.

Hmmm, very weird that it's picking on the 505 only. I don't know that I have any suggestions wrt that problem, maybe someone with a similar set up can help.

I was able to get Sony and ADE to communicate by deauthing my old ADE login on the computer that would not run ebook library, and then logging into ADE using my Ebook Library password.

Incidently you deauthorize the ADE software by typing ctrl-shift-D.

I guess Sony is sharing user accounts with Adobe which is interesting.

In any case My Win7x32 notebook runs ebook library ok (except for the fact I have to scroll to the right) and I can copy the corresponding epub over to my win7x64 machine which wont run the ebook library, and read the books there in ADE. Not exactly convenient, but I guess thats why there is dropbox.

Are you using Windows? Their store app uses Internet Explorer even if it's inside their program. So if your IE proxy settings are set wrong Sony won't get out. If for example you used Firefox to browse the web, you'd never notice this.

If you can view web pages with Internet Explorer and The Sony Store won't open, well

D, Go to <msconfig> and remove it from your programs to be started.

I use IE, am on XP, can go to ANY other website I want to with no problems, but cannot, under any circumstances get into this website with my pc. Keeps saying check to make sure you have an internet connection.

I removed and reloaded the software under a different folder. Still no good. I turned off my firewall completely. Still no good. I went into IE's Tools and Security and set it to its weakest setting. Still no good.

Short of formatting my hard drive and reloading Windows, I don't know what else to do.

You are saying it does this with IE alone, just trying to go to

https://ebookstore.sony.com/

If so it's certainly not the Library software but something with IE or Firewall or Virus protection.

Do you have Firefox or another browser? if not maybe download Firefox and see if you can get there using it. Might give you another clue.
