Sony 300 for £139, UK

If anyone's interested, WH Smith online have the Sony Reader 300 for £139 and (supposedly) in stock.

Reader 600 Black is £219, in stock. The silver is OOS

And, of course, they have the iRiver Story for £199

:-( I bought my PRS 300 from Waterstones for £149 a week ago, but I did get a £10 e book token with it.

How does the Sony Store justify £179?

Sony never (pretty much) discount their prices. Borders (!) still ask for £179 for the 300/£249 for the 600, so I guess not everyone's riding the discount train.

I know. It's a mess. The administrators say they're looking to sell the business as going concern, but they're plastering the place with 'store closing' stickers and offering 20% off everything and 50% off some stuff.

Meanwhile, their Sony kit (including accessories) is still full price. How about 20% off the cover with light?

I've got one of these on order through my employer as a pre-tax benefit, plus no vat, so it works out at around £118 - the PRS-300 says availability is 1-2 working days, and the courier should be next day, so I'm hoping it is in next week Anyone know any more about stock levels?

Looking at sites like Waterstones and WH Smith, I see low stock levels of the 600 but not the 300. That's very indirect, but cause for optimism.

I have the feeling that, in the UK at least, the 600 has sold better than the 300 (or maybe Sony just made loads more 300s)

WH Smith have the 300 in silver back in stock.

I've got a touchscreen phone, a laptop, a computer.... I just want this to read comics and books. Touchscreen on the 600 wasn't a necessity for me.

p.s. In Borders, the Sony bits were a concession, thus not included in the mass sell-off. They'll just go back to Sony.

Might be worth looking for the Elonex though - that was being sold directly by Borders.

May just be that the 300 isn't being advertised as heavily. Eg, when I bought my 600 from Waterstones in Manchester, there wasn't a trace of a 300 on display, but a big display stand of 600s.

Has anyone received one of these?

Mine was ordered a week ago. The stock came back in at WH Smith on Friday, and it still isn't here with 1-2 day shipping.

I've already had a problem with another company lying about stock - beginning to think I will never get this!

Turned out my order was cancelled! Went to Waterstones and bought one in the flesh in the end. I love it!
