Bookeen itself has a Czech site that doesn't say anything about DRM formats and has a very old demo clip, but says 1GB and "Gold Edition" - and epub is in the list of formats and mobi/prc is not:

There are quite a number of sites with "Gen3 Gold Edition", but no update to the year-old specs.

Simplicissimus is italian, weltbild is german, pixmania is french, bookeen.cz is not the official bookeen website, they are distributors that "steel" the bookeen domain... the "Electronics and Gadgets Direct Ltd" is UK..

All of theses are european distributors.

My mistake about bookeen.cz, but if Gen3 Gold Edition is being confidently advertised with the new specs at a number of places in Europe, why do you think BoB are mistakenly advertising it and that it has not been released in the US?

I have just written to Bookeen about the Czech and US versions of teh Cybook Gen3 being advertised...

From the news page, it seems like everybody is having a new firmware or an update exept Bookeen... They are sooooo weird.

I don't know what to think, are they just unable to deliver the firmware and they don't know how to tell us, or do they just not care at all what their customers feel? Everything have been said already, but each week without that stupid update, or at least, part of it, (the one obviously working) puzzle me more and more. It's just weird.

Hey guys, (pretending to be from Bookeen, so read with a French accent), the new firmware we promised some time ago has a problem. We can't sort it, really sorry.

OR We can sort it but it is a problem with the (add a techy thing here)

OR We have had a gas leak and that has caused us a problem.

Not too hard to say something. How could it be worse than it is?

If they told you that they are working on something (*anything*) else but the soon-to-be-released firmware, that's a slap in the face.

But I do not understand that they work on features which will not make it into the coming FW anyway. Eowyn, with "indead" you created the perfect term for the current state of the Bookeen firmware.
For being "undead" it would have had to walk the earth first, so I rather assume the firmware is in a state of current dying between this world and the digital one.

Get this firmware out, before I write a novel about it ...

I don't quite understand what you mean in relation to what I said. Expecting the firmware to "just work" and then being unable to get it done is one thing. But spending time on features which won't be in the next FW is quite another thing.

And if you mean to say that that "margin cropping" might be in the coming firmware, I can only say that if almost a year after the scheduled release they are still working on a non-essential features and it's "not looking good" then it's even worse. If you're past your release date it's common sense to cut everything non-essential which isn't done yet, so you can finally get a release out. When Microsoft botched the Windows Vista release people from other teams working on future Windows versions were pulled in to help get Vista finished.

Apart from that I read here on the forum that Bookeen is "very close to releasing" the new fw and that it's currently in testing. If there is still work done on features (and it's not looking good) then the FW is *not* in testing and is *not* "very close to releasing". So, one of the two statements must be wrong...
