Woosted, I met same problem with you before. It is because there is two version of LCD, the old one with is different with the new one some where, if your W1060 was bought no so long time ago you might need to try FW as below link----there are two version there the last one "W1060 FW V1.8d_W2_C.rar" should be for you:
http://www.wirelession.com/products_...?cid=100&id=79 the Keyboard yes i do nt like it either after rotate, i guess this will be fixed in next FW version |

Woosted - which version of the firmware did you get:
This one: FW W1060 V1.8d_W2_A or This one: FW W1060 V1.8d_W2_C_ Apparently there is a different LCD in the two versions and it causes your problem. Download the other one you see on their site and it should fix the problem. EDIT: Also, if people don't mind a smaller on-screen keyboard, this one is pretty cool. It is freeware and I put it up on my site for download. http://www.coldsuncreations.com/Files/JOTKBD.rar Just put it on your device and run it. The program will put a small keyboard icon in the tray and you can access the keyboard by clicking the icon. Last edited by ColdSun; 12-08-2009 at 12:44 PM. |

Thank you DigitBee and CloldSun.
The FW W1060 V1.8d_W2_C_ worked great with no problems. The On-Screen Keyboard is really nice. One more question is there a way to replace the LargeKB to this one. The reason whenever i go to textbox the LargeKB pops up. Thanks again. You guys are GREAT!!! |

BTW, Do you like the transcriber? I find it frustrating. I guess I need to take the time to practice with it. I really miss the days od Palm's graffiti. Ellen |

Ellen,
I don't much like the transcriber either, but maybe it is because I'm just used to using the OSK. That link above is the keyboard I mentioned. It is quite a bit smaller than the stock keyboard. I'm working on a way to disable the default large keyboard. I'll let you know when I find that solution. ![]() |

CS,
Can you verify, does the W1060 have tv out ports? I went to the Electowold website that you posted, and I noticed the green and red ports on the side and I think black one above those. Thanks for your help. |

MKV support hasn't been released yet. Also, there are no TV outs on the device.

This or the JE100?
Coldsun,
I was thinking of buying a Nook for my wife for Christmas, but after they sold out I started looking at other devices. She mostly just wants a good, versatile ereader. She reads in bed often, and I think that an LCD screen would be best due to the backlight. Right now she reads on her iphone, and loves the program Stanza. Of course, she would like a bigger screen (6 or 7 inches) to read on, but still wants something thin and light that would not be tedious to hold. I want to get her a device that boots quickly, turns pages briskly, can download ebooks over wifi, and meets all of the above criteria. I also want to get her something that has an ereader program that resembles Stanza. Secondary functions would be a nice side benefit (video, music, etc.) but not what is most important. So, with all that in mind, should I buy her a Wirelession 1060 or the JE 100? Which one would suit her purposes best? They are both around the same price, so that is not a concern. I like the look and profile of the JE100, and the cover looks like it would make it feel more like a book. However, if the Wirelession is better, I will order that. Does the JE100 now have built in wifi, or does it still need the dongle? One last question (sorry!), does the Wirelession have a cool cover like the JE100? If so, where can I get one? Thanks! I love your reviews, and I really appreciate your hard work. |

Hello Noah98,
I'm glad you like my reviews. I'll be posting more soon. Now on to your questions! ![]() First let me say that I can appreciate all of your concerns and requirements when buying an ebook reader. You see, they are almost exactly the same as mine as I quest for the perfect device. Unfortunately, that device does not exist, at least not for me! Often you will find features in one device or the other that you wish was all-in-one. I can give you a comparison of the two and then you can decide which of the two would be the best fit for you (if you are going to buy a device now). Just to be completely honest, I don't buy e-ink devices for the simple reason they are not backlit. I know folks have their reasons for getting these devices, and the biggest positive is the fact that the Nook and Kindle have a huge library behind them. I just can't get past the singular function, price, and lack of backlit screen. If your wife is planning on using the device only for reading, I would highly suggest getting her the JE-100. It is light, feels oh-so-good in the hand and of course has the great cover that comes with it. Battery life is actually not as bad as you would think. The screen is vibrant and colorful, even more so than the W1060. It doesn't turn pages instantly as fast as the W1060 though. Still, if you never had another ebook device, you would never know that. You can download Mobipocket for DRMed ebooks, which works perfectly on JE-100, including screen rotation. You cand download Alreader2 and uBook for HTML, TXT, and RTF files. You still need the dongle for wireless internet on the JE-100. Now, since you mentioned your wife might do more with the device than use it for reading, I would say the W1060 might be the better choice. It isn't as light as the JE-100, and the screen is not as vibrant, but still near the quality of your iPhone. It doesn't come with a carrying case/cover, you will have to buy one for it. It is a very well-built device, in fact out of all the chinese devices I've used, it has the highest build quality. Since it is a very new device, and the company that makes it isn't some gigantic electronics manufacturer, there are some kinks that need to be worked out. They just fixed screen rotation, and it is works fine now. The latest firmware also seems to make the internet run faster, but there might be some extra work getting it to run on certain routers (my D-Link DIR-655 required a static IP address for some reason). If they can get a working version of Android on this device, with the market available, it will be a very good buy indeed. Also, if you wife doesn't mind a smaller screen, you could go for the 5-inch screen of the Archos 5 Android IT. It is a fantastic little device. Check out Chippy's review over on Carrypad for more information. As you can see, there seems to be pros and cons for each device, even the Archos 5. I'm still waiting for the perfect 6-7" screen device. Next year we will see a whole lot of these things coming out. I won't say wait until then to get her one, but maybe she will like whatever you get her now that the next device you get her will score you even bigger points. Always good to be on the good side of the wife... ![]() Let me know if you have any further questions. |

Hey Coldsun I was wondering if you had any chance to test out bluetooth yet? I want to be able to skype but seeing how the device doesn't have a mic or a port to plug a mic in that leaves only bluetooth headset.
Can you see if you can connect a regular Bluetooth Headset and also do you know if AD2P will work on the device with the current firmware? Also any chance the new firmware supports a bluetooth or USB keyboard? |

EDIT: Just tried BT. Received error - "Controller Not Present." Looks like it isn't quite ready with this firmware.
