				Debian on the Kindle

I got a running copy of the latest Debian release (lenny) on the kindle via chroot, seems to work quite nice!

Created a 700mb ext3-container-file in the /mnt/us directory. If anyone is interested I could upload the container file somewhere. (should be max. 150mb compressed) |

			Sounds great!

Is it possible to ask to to upload this compressed container to one of free file hosting such as RapidShare or something else and place link here? This is quite interesting achievment, because current Kindle firmware is not using a lot of abilities of kindle platform, from my point of view. |

Just uploaded the container file to rapidshare.

Here are some quick steps to get it running: unzip and then place the 'debian.ext3' file into the /mnt/us directory. login via ssh and execute the following commands: mkdir /mnt/debian mount -o loop /mnt/us/debian.ext3 /mnt/debian chroot /mnt/debian After that you might wanna mount /proc, /dev/pts and /sys (sysfs) Download at: (limited to 10 Downloads) http://rapidshare.com/files/318004992/debian.zip.html |

That's great work you've done. Though IMHO, getting Debian running makes not much point since Kindle's already shipped with Linux. Hope someday we can get X running, and then that's the really great breakthrough.

Thanks. Any docs on this except the fsck.com link? (cannot open it...)

It'll be great if we can bring up xPDF and FBReader on Kindle DX ![]() Quote:

You can't open that link? It works fine for me. Can you get to http://blog.fsck.com?

And no, as far as I'm aware that's all the documentation available, sadly. Cheers, Colin |

I'll host it for a bit (on my desktop, don't expect great uptime) if someone feels like giving me it.
