~ahem~ With apologies to Ea, I'll just say that I love newbies (and not just shot & dressed), that Littermate's "presumptuous" comment tickled me pink because he felt he could make it (I do worry about feelings of intimidation, especially with new folk, honest!), and that I'm not just saying this because DGMa carries the biggest stick(*).

Its funny you should mention intimidation coz intimidating was one of my initial reactions to that avatar when I first began reading MR. Now, suitably encouraged, its probably worth mentioning the actual thoughts that went through my head when I first saw it...it looked like some kind of weird BDSM mask to me, stern and fierce and menacing (which is hilarious, really). But now I can see its actually an oriental monkey mask (with a beanie!) and its now only slightly scary. I never did like masks.

It does illustrate the point of the thread though. You never can foresee how other folk will see you, no matter how you see yourself.

I must admit, I do like the idea of having an avatar that is wearing a mask - it's kind of a self-referential irony...or something.
