Um I'm confused. The umlaut is an diacritical sign that modifies a wovel sound (at least in German, AFAIK). So it's not really a 'letter'. Or perhaps you didn't mean that at all, and I've misunderstood you

Next I suggest you embed the letter image at the end of a gif animation, with the letter flashing only a fraction of a second!

Didn't really understand the reference to umlaut as I didn't even know what that is until I read this thread, nor do I speak German. But the rest of the clue was pretty straight forward.

Found it at once. Are the hints getting easier and easier instead of harder and harder? It's a shame that this new shortcut thing that I had only just learnt about didn't deliver as planned. I mean, the purpose of this it to get to know the forum better, or not?
