When Curling was televised on the Winter Olympics over here a few years ago, a bunch of friends were fascinated. It both had strategy and required thought, and was a sport completely-out-of-shape them might actually be able to play.

Curling is Saskatchewan's provincial sport, and a close second when it comes to Canadian's favorite sport (hockey will always have the lead). It even inspires movies!

It also promotes cooperation between Curling and Hardrock bands.

During the last winter olympics. A swedish reporter stated that "There isn't enough rock'n'roll in curling". So the Swedish female national team recorded a music video with the swedish hardrock band Hammerfall to their song "Hearts on fire".

I think curling is my favourite Winter Olympic sport; a bit more cerebral than the others on offer.

But we don't win many medals and are consequently bitter about our lack of success; one of our commentators dismissed the Winter Olympics as a festival of sliding .

I have a friend who walks (runs!) his wirehair terrier an hour or more each day. He said curling is harder than it looks. He really enjoyed it.

i never heard of hurling until now, so i looked on the wikipedia page. it looks not only insane but frankly terrifying.

see, already i find sports boring, but when you add in housework too it's just beyond my comprehension.

the first time i ever heard of curling was in an episode of Corner Gas. i thought they made it up as a joke.

You'd think Ice Dancing was the greatest sport ever invented judging by the hoop-la in the press at the time. But ask anyone in the UK to tell you who the current champions are and no-one would have a clue.

I don't know about the press hoop-la in the UK at the time, but I still vividly remember their medal winning performance to Bolero (1984).

Maybe not the greatest sport ever, but Torvill & Dean raised the bar for ice dancing. Took it from a slow, boring event to an intense and passionate one.

But that's just me. I've always loved dance and ice skating (used to be active in both once upon a time.)

Sorry, I'm supposed to be ranting in this thread. OK. I never could get the hang of roller skating. RANT, RANT, RANT.

I remember them, too. They were great! Of course, I still remember the whole Tanya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan debacle. Not one of USA Sports' finest moments.

Oh, and I could never figure out how to skate backwards!
