It's been a while since I have updated but here goes:
First up was Dark End of the Spectrum by Athony S. Policastro, this one started out good and really piqued my interest with a fairly original idea for a Thriller. However, the further I got into it the more confusing the writing and dialogue became. The story was decent but it needed some serious editing to be more enjoyable. Next up was Urge to Kill by John Lutz. A crime thriller type novel. I really enjoyed this one. Kept me guessing until near the end. Freebie from Sony too. Recommended. Next up was How to Disappear Completely by David Bowick. This was a freebie from FeedBooks and a short story. It was humorous and while I enjoyed it there didn't seem to be much point to the story. A decent time killer. Next up was Geek Mafia: Black Hat Blues by Rick Dakan. I had previously read the first two in this series and really enjoyed them. The original Geek Mafia was actually the very first book I read on my PRS-500. Although the first two books were freebies from FeedBooks this one was not but after thoroughly enjoying the first two I picked this one up. It is a hacker heist thriller as were the first two. The main characters returned for the third incarnation while adding a few new faces. Excellent reads all 3. Most recently was Prestwick by David Hough which was kindly sent to me by forum member neilmarr. This was a pretty much non stop action fest. Really enjoyed this one so thanks go out to you neil. Check it out if you want something fast paced and action packed. Currently I am about 1/3 of the way through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Really enjoying this one and will probably read the rest of the trilogy and may check out the movies too. Hopefully when I finish work for the xmas break I will get some more reading in. :-) Kevin |

Reading "Away" by Amy Bloom - about an American immigrant, a young jewish woman, a survivor of the 1920s Russsian pogroms, and her journey across America in search of her lost daughter.
It did sound slightly more uplifting in the description. She's still in NY and so far it's been rather bleak (I'm a little over 25% in). I'm still interested enough in the character to want to find out what will happen, but I don't know if I care enough to finish. It's written in present tense, which does place the reader more 'in' the scene, but it's a bit tiring, too. |

Just finished 'Traffic; why we drive the way we do"by Tom Vanderbilt and it was very interesting. I thought it would focus on things like why people in the DC area find it so hard to turn right on red or merge on the freeways. But, it looked at the subject from an engineering view point and the complexities of designing road systems. Quite interesting

![]() I am currently reading 'Downward to the Earth' by Robert Silverberg; the first book of his I've read. Only a couple of chapters in, but not bad so far. Last edited by Sparrow; 12-06-2009 at 02:33 AM. |

I am reading the Percy Jackson series (it is a children's series of books), and it is a great, light read when you are sick. |

Thanks for the thumbs-up on *Prestwick*, Ould. If anyone here would like it (PDF only so far, I'm afraid) or any other BeWrite Books title/s in ebook version, drop me a line and, for the rest of this year, I'll send them through free of charge to you. ntmarrATbewrite.net (use the @ sign, natch). Two I can highly recommend are very recent releases *Bottom of the List* (hilarious) and *The Blue Man Dreams the End of Time* (really thought-provoking and literary thriller). You can find details on the BeWrite Books website (www.bewrite.net) if you want to check the books' descriptions and extracts before emailing me for free copies. All is available everywhere else, and also in paperback -- but then you'd have to pay for them. I owe some favours to this MR community, so I'd like to hand something back. Our next release, this week, is *The Movie* by Bosley Gravel (a pen name, of course), which is a hoot -- the kind of thing I'd hope for if I locked John Steinbeck, Kurt Vonnegut and Mark Twain in a room together for a week with a single typewriter and a case of scotch. It's available as of Dec 10, so just holler then if you want to give it a whirl. All of these are my own edits, by the way (most BB titles are in edit for a year or more, so read into that what you will) and I can highly recommend them as superb reads. I wouldn't waste any reader's time with anything less. No obligation, folks, but a wee mention here (like Ould's kind few lines) or a short review is always more than welcome. Keep it honest. We want any bad news too. Cheers. Neil Last edited by neilmarr; 12-06-2009 at 09:05 AM. |

Unless marked otherwise, it is legal to turn right on red in the US although, at least in Northern Virginia, most drivers think it's mandatory to whip out your cell phone and fiddle with it unless, of course, you're too absorbed in drinking your Starbucks.

I just finished Wasp by Garret, thanks for the recommendation, RSE!
Now I'm reading How to Read Like a Writer. Don't have my Kindle with me, so I can't remember the author's name. I'll edit at some point when there is a conjunction. |

Raw Spirit: In Search of the Perfect Dram.
How the heck do authors get such gigs? And why do they have to make it such a fun read, making it harder to hate them for it..... |
