I suppose there's a story behind it, but this video makes about as little sense to me as any I've ever seen. Still, I love this song.

I really do like Tyler's song, but that video really doesn't help it. I'm glad I heard the song before I saw the video! Thanks for posting that! |

I hate Barry Manilow. I hate him like a single sloth hates speed-dating. I hate him like a sick dog hates medical thermometers. I hate him like an umblemished dune hates a kandy-kolored buggy. I hate him like reality hates television. I hate him like chickens hate swifts. I hate him like everybody hates a smartarse. I hate him like bees hate visitors. I hate him like the deluge hates the dirt. I hate him like a green pen hates a newspaper editor. I hate him like the hills hate the sound of music. I hate him like a millipede hates tinea. I hate him like a crowded elevator hates a fart. I hate him like a train carriage hates a mobile phone conversation. I hate him like a slug hates salt. I hate him like a book hates a broken spine. I hate him like nature hates a vacuum. I hate him like Marc hates Barry Manilow.
I have so hated him since earliest memory. It clearly is my destiny to destroy him. Beware, Moejoe, lest his influence over you overcome sensibility. Grave danger you are in. Cheesy sentimentalism, you are listening to. Once you start down the Manilow path, forever it will dominate your playlists, consume you it will. IT'S A TRAP! Cheers Marc |

Although I don't care for a number of his songs (I didn't like his version of "Never Gonna Give You Up"), there are many that are simply terrific. Among my favorites are: Bermuda Triangle, The Last Duet (a duet with Lily Tomlin), It Never Rains In Southern California, and I Hear Her Playing Music, Come Monday, Never Met A Man I Didn't Like. I like Barry Manilow's music much more than much of the recent hit music. Although I've found a few great recent songs (like "No Children" by The Mountain Goats) I find less and less recent music that I like. |

How on EARTH do you manage to go from Corrosion of Conformity to Manilow?
Thats a musical journey that seems almost impossible to accomplish to me. ![]() As for listening too: 1812 Overture (with real guns) To the dismay of my co-workers ![]() |

I don't hate him, and I think he's quite a talented song craftsman and wordsmith. I don't care much for his performances of his works, and his attempts at being "hip" are grating on the nerves. I absolutely love the way he incorporated the Chopin Prelude in C Minor into his Could It Be Magic (co-written with Adrienne Anderson). Granted, toward the end of that song, he goes into hip overdrive wink-at-the-audience mode, and granted, he further corrupted the song in later years with a disco spin, perhaps influenced by the Donna Summer version... Okay, so I'm really not overly fond of any of his performances of it, but I still contend that it's a great song. I just think other people could do a better job with it. I think I could do a better job with it; it is quite enjoyable to play on the old keyboards. Maybe one day after I retire, I'll record my own version to show how he should have done it.
