Hi Guys,
I'm waiting for my Cool-er reader to arrive - it's pre-ordered. Anyway, I was having a look at the Cooler-books website and none of my searching comes back with a result, even for those authors of books it suggests. My question is, where do you guys buy your e-books from? I'm going to be buying mostly from the popular authors such as Dean Koontz, James Patterson, etc. Regards |

Try fictionwise.com or booksonboard.com. The Sony bookstore is a good alternative, too (they will switch to ePub all the way). Barnes & Noble is said to sell ePub books soon, too!

If you are in the UK, Diesel has been reported to be free of the geographic restriction checks that can trip you up at other US ebook stores (although there are usually work arounds at the other stores). In the UK, WHSmith is my favorite. You are looking for Adobe ePub (best) or Adobe Digital Editions (i.e. PDF).

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I'm in Australia and had been looking at some sites and found that there were restrictions on who could download some books.
Can't wait for my Cool-er to arrive - I've been waiting since about August. They were out of stock and expecting some more in September so I did a pre-order (and received an email confirmation), but somehow this was lost. It might have something to do with the pre-order simply asking for my contact details without asking anything for payment. I didn't think anything about it at the time as I thought they would ask for payment once stock came in. I chased it up in the middle of September and was told the shipment was due in around the 21st September. I was told on 1st October that a shipment had arrived and that pre-orders were done in the order they arrived. That's fair. The next shipment was due in 2-3 weeks.. I checked again late October and was asked to do another pre-order only this time it will ask for payment, which it did. The support lady asked me to email her the pre-order number which I did and she said she would look into it. I chased it up again on the 16th November after giving it a few weeks for it to arrive (as I assumed it would have been shipped out) and I've been told that another shipment is due the following week (hopefully around now). So I'll hopefully receive an email soon saying they are shipping it as they said that they will ship soon. I can say that the support staff have always responded to my emails politely and quickly - I usually have a response the next day which isn't too bad considering the time differences. As for Cool-er Books website, hopefully they'll fix their search problem soon. I mentioned it to them back in August when I was researching the reader and their bookstore and they told me they were updating their databases, or doing some maintenance work, or whatever which is why my searches were unsuccessful. But that was back in August. I've also heard that their bookstore is expensive - found this on some YouTube video reviews of the reader. That, plus the fact that other e-book stores I looked at had region-restricted downloads which meant I can't purchase from them, was the reason I asked about where you guys buy your books from. I'm hoping I'll have the reader in time to download and install some novels before heading off on a business trip on the 7th December. Fingers crossed. |

Also, at a lot of the sites you can just set your location to US and then buy any books (except, ironically, the ones prohibited from US sale - there are a few!). Give it a whirl at the sites you find the best price on a book and you may be pleasantly surprised...

Got mine today and it says 1.12.6 is that the most up-to-date version of the software or do I have to go to the download page?

good question
That is a excellent question.
I am not sure. Their website doesn't really have a firmware section (at least not that I saw last time I was there). This version of firmware got rid of most of the major issues the Cool-er was having when it first came out so I am guessing they won't be releasing another version for a while now? I don't know if anyone else has any better info or knows where they are going to post their firmware info. Amy |

http://www.coolreaders.eu/help.asp it seems to have all relevant info/links for the latest firmware. Of course, if you wish to regress there seems to be no links to older firmware, so they should have a dedicated firmware page. |

The dedicated firmware page for the Cool-ER can be found here.
The previous version of the firmware was very recently made available here in their download's section. (cooler_vfat_0724.zip) And wow! It looks like a new firmware update just went up on the 1st of December. 1.12.9. Last edited by codeMonkey; 12-03-2009 at 07:38 AM. |

I've downloaded the firmware but won't get a chance to play with it myself until I get home - does the bricking let you re-flash?
