If you must test on the inside of the battery door. And wait till dry.

Dear warpwar:

Thank you for posting and for buying an Astak product.

Even though you bought from New Egg, your warranty is with Astak. You are covered. We are sorry about the wrinkling of the paint. Belive me, we really are. PLEASE contact Astak support at: support@astak.com or call tollfree: 1-866-368-8788 and let us take good care of you.

Sad thing is I'm finishing up this book before I report the peeling to Astak. On the last chapter. Enjoying it to much to let pain annoy me.

Just a quick question, some of the Bebook Mini's have been reported to have peeling paint and they don't come supplied with a cover/case, which leads me to believe that the cover isn't the only reason for the peeling. Is there anything that is being recommended for us to do to further reduce the risk of peeling in the future?

My white PP has discolored on the left and right sides (skin oils?), as well as peeling. I wish they would have left the danged paint off, as the underlying plastic is white. FWIW, I got it in November.

Dear All:

I would imagine that BeBook gets them in boxes where the Mini is already in the case as it leaves the factory. I do not know as I know little about BeBook (a fine company). I am just surmizing that they MUST get them the same way we get the Pocket PRO.

Clearly, according to the factory, the oils in the case were the problem and the new cases solve that. Our Product Manager bit my head off (not vert tactful) when I brought your point up! He is vehement that it is the case that caused the problem... and he would know!! Astak has pulled back ALL inventory of the old cases and the problem is apparently solved now with the new LINED cases.

Again, I am on dangerous ground talking about BeBook (a really nice firm): but I cannot imagine them selling the Mini without the case. It is included by the factory. They will not let us sell it without the case.

Anything herein about the Mini is conjecture!

Thank you.

Also, Thanks for the apology, but it isn't really your company's fault, you got sent bad product. It isn't right that you guys are stuck with absorbing the cost.

So what are looking at for turnaround time on replacements? There is a thread saying you are running low on what you have in stock.

Dear Warpwar:

Thank you. We HAVE to always assume responsibility. Passing the buck back to the factory does not help the end user. I try very hard to make our company take full responsibility for things like this (even if it was not directly our fault). To me, that is Customer Service. I do not want us to become too big for our britches. I keep telling them it is the "personal touch" that sells our devices. Acting businesslike and even a bit mean may trim expenses but will eventually lose customers.

We are keeping a few of the most popular colors back to make fast replacement possible. I cannot give you a turnaround time, my friend, as then I get bar-b-qued by our people. THEY want to handle that. Give a tollfree call to 1-866-368-8788 or email: support@astak.com. Make them aware and let them set one aside.

ooops, sorry Robert, didn't mean to get you in trouble. The Bebook Mini according to their website and some reviews of purchases does not include a cover, so perhaps they remove the cover before shipping to customers in the hope they purchase a stylzworld cover.

But regardless of all that I am glad to hear the problem has been identified and solved - no worries about my future purchase.

I hope I don't have the "bad" cover when I visit the U.S. on Dec. 23 to pick up my Pocket Pro that has been at my sister's house for about 1 month. (It was ordered from Books on Board. Who know whether they were sitting on what lot number of these units - the good or the bad case?!)

You will get to see if the theory that the cover (out gassing?) was causing the problem.
No fingerprint oils involved.
There is only about 4 square inches on the back, where the coating really stuck. The rest peeled and I polished it nicely

I hate when you click off a page and all the crap you right is gone. ~_~

Anyways I been busy so here are the photos before I shoot them over to Astak. The wrinkling isn't so bad but if this happened at 2 months, who knows what will happen in a year.
