I`m still into Sunburn by Carver but while waiting at my dentist the other day I started the book "Wachtmeister Studer" by the swiss author Friedrich Glauser, written in german.
What?

This is correct. Plus all one has to do is watch the "Forum Spy".

No more hints from me.

As for prose translations, Walter Shrewring has made an excellent (and very readable) translation of "The Odyssey".
modern prose translation... Not that I would mind a nice retelling either Or even better, an alternate history version! I just love alternate histories...

A few years ago I read a book that was based on the Odyssey. It retold the story as viewed by Penelope, then Telemachus, and also Ulysses himself I think. Unfortunately I don't remember the title or author, I think he was from Eastern Europe (before WWII), maybe a Czech. It was a quick and enjoyable read. Sorry I can't give more useful details... maybe when I get home this week-end, if I still have the book.

I've not yet started with the series. But I do know I can get the ePub's from the library so I don't have to read via pBook.

I only watch a few hours of TV weekly since I got my Sony 505 last May. I've downloaded and bought a lot of ebooks but find myself mainly reading library books since I discovered my NYPL card will only be good until May and is not renewable ;-( I live in Costa Rica and I'm referring to the non-resident card. But then I have all those other ebooks waiting for me! Talked my husband into getting his own Sony in July and he spends a lot of time reading too.

So what am I reading right now? Got The Look by James Grippando. This is the first book I've read by this author and I am enjoying it. I like thrillers.

OK, I found it, or the French translation anyway. Sorry but I can't find the English one. The author's name is Sándor Márai.

I'm reading "Sweet Thursday" - by John Steinbeck - a sequel to "Cannery Row" that I never knew existed. It's not as lyrical a read as Cannery Row - focusing on Doc's character. But still a fun read.
