Wrong. You can download the Kindle App for the PC and buy ebooks there too. But remember, if they are DRM protected or in TOPAZ format, you won't be able to read them on your PP.

How do you find out if they are protected or in TOPAZ format?

If an ebook's product details in the Kindle Store includes:
Quote:
Simultaneous Device Usage: Unlimited
then it is a DRM-free MOBI ebook. These are usually from small publishers and independent authors.

If the book has the amount of pages listed in the book details, it's a topaz book. Only readable on the Kindle, Iphone, Ipod and Kindle for PC app (atm!)

Hey at least they fixed it pretty fast (Within a month or 2 of launch)

My Gen3 (Which is now in My Uncles hands) and my Mom's still only get 4 days or so of life, as it never completely goes to sleep. As I don't like to wait for the boot I usually just kept it on, so I had to remember to keep it charged up. Coming from the Sony it was a bit of a let down.

With the PP, with the screen locked, I've not had to think about charging it up after the update.

I just got mine, and so far the only issue I don't like is the fact that it doesn't work well with my Mac (am running the latest version of Snow Leopard on a 2008 iMac). I read a blog post that said the Astak would eventually be corrupted, needing a firmware flash, if I continued to hard-eject (necessary because the Mac and the Astak don't communicate well). In fact, the Astak caused my first ever kernel panic!

But I took the advice on the blog and will only plug in the SD card via a card reader when I transfer books. This means I can't use the internal memory, but it keeps the Astak from becoming corrupted.

I don't regret it, but by the same token, I don't use it. I find I prefer reading on my Sony 505 mostly or my Kindle2 mostly because the experience is better. The controls and UI are much better on either of them over the PP.

I'll bet you will. I may make a present of it to a family member.

It definitely handles more formats than the others.

No regrets purchashing the PP. Like other devices, it has its pluses and minuses, but on the whole, I'm happy with the purchase.

Overall no regrets.
But the fact that the touted leather cover, turned out to be the ugliest IMHO, vinyl cover and no way to buy nicer (+smaller) one sours it a little.
Plus yeah, font selection based on file format... something stinks in software department. FB2 have only two fonts both don't have good contrast on the screen, would really like to have ability to load thicker fonts like bold bookman.
But format support overall, size and cuteness in addition to slipping dates of the other readers I would consider makes it a no regret purchase.

I have found somethng interesting, you CAN add more fonts to the FB2 reader and MOBI, i just downloaded from this site (spanish): http://mipapyreebookreader.blogspot....descargas.html the 2 packs that have the names

02.- Pack Fuentes MOBIREADER (PAPYRE 6.1) 20091125
03.- Pack Fuentes CRENGINE (PAPYRE 6.1) 20091125

I just unzipped on the root of the SD card and now i have lots of fonts i can use while reading (problem is that the PP only use numbers 1-9 to select font and there are more than 10 fonts there) Even if that shows it only works for the v3 it works on the v5 too
