But... I like simple templates! And those non-scrolling backgrounds make the site really slow.

So, I'll stick with my tiled background, I'm really happy with how that turned out...

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm a lost cause. I learned what CSSS meant a couple weeks ago only, so I'll need some time to catch up! I'll give it a try next weekend and ask you if I get overwhelmed.

yeah, uh, csss?? Well, at our school, for the special education department (IEPs and other paperwork), we have a computer system named "eCSSS" and pronounced "E, C, triple S" (because we are quite clever that way). I know what that is and how to work it quite well, but I donʻt recall any appealing penguins or oh-so-classy-randomly-trotting-by llamas...

It's CSS if you mean Cascading StyleSheets... If you really mean CSSS, it's probably something different!

And I love to learn by trial-and-error... Let somebody (frabjous) do the hard work and then change it how I want it
