I admitted that I didn't know anything about the other companies. Then I went and read up on them. SO I do know about them now and before I made the other post. So I do know about them both now and when I made that other post. I am not defending those practices. What I am doing is saying that what Amazon is doing has nothing to do with the other companies. Just because you think it does, does not make it so. One is open and up front about their cost and polices. The other is not. No comparison at all. Contrary to what you said, you obviously do not understand at all. If you did, you would not keep saying that I am defending things that I am not defending. It is just like if I said because you as a citizen of the UK and get much of your food from the ocean, that you are supporting the pirates that plague us today. In reality they have nothing to do with each other. The same with the claim that I am supporting a different company. It has nothing to do with Amazon. I actually give you no more validation for one simple reason. Nothing you have said is based on logic. |

OK, we've exposed the difference between Amazon and a catfish is that one's a bottom-dwelling scum-sucker and the other's a fish.
![]() Scam or not, I for one will not pay for the "privilege" of using the Amazon "wireless service that's not a wireless service" for their PC application. It is clearly just an excuse to add a levy on the already overburdened and over-paying non-US customers (since it takes their so-called "free" eBooks and makes them pricey). Why not just call it a "screw the non-US customer fee" and be upfront about it? Calling it a wireless fee is insulting. So let's get back to the really important question - where the hell is the Kindle for PC PID? That's what's needed to make the PC app really worthwhile... if you get my drift... ![]() |

Have any of you tried contacting Amazon about the wireless delivery charge for international folk? I mentioned this in passing when I was talking to CS for a different issue, and they seemed to think that if that charge does exist, it's likely a bug/problem with the web site (i.e. Amazon seems to agree with you - downloading to your PC shouldn't have the international Kindle's wireless delivery fee).
Maybe it's just displaying the delivery charge, but doesn't tack on the extra fee when you purchase for your computer? Last edited by Nevir; 11-23-2009 at 10:58 AM. |

My heart is bleeding for all those people who won't buy from Amazon on principle but who are waiting for the Kindle for PC PID to be uncovered. Pzzzt, ftttt, logic error, phut.
And to think that this started out as a thread that was actually worth reading. |

I personally didn't buy my reader from Amazon, because of some of their policies, and because the 505 was a better fit for what I wanted. It supports stuff that I use that the Kindle doesn't (library books, etc). If the Kindle for PC PID was found, or they started selling for other readers, I'd gladly give Amazon my business. |

![]() As for the K4PC PID, yes, we NEED to find out how to determine this so we can de-DRM the .mobi version of .azw files - just so we can be assured we can access them properly. I too wish to see more research done on this! ![]() Derek |

I keep wondering if the nomenclature "AZW1" and its relationship to the nomenclature "AZW" implies a similar relationship between the two encryption methodologies. Maybe I'm just being simple minded.

Otherwise, it is clear that some people do not understand (quite likely due to Amazon marketing and the vagaries of international ebook distribution) that the "Kindle International" is, at this time, primarily aimed at US users who happen to be traveling or residing abroad. This is why the international books are in English, why the Kindles are shipped from the US, why you have to pay in USD, why they're using AT&T wireless instead of O2, etc etc. Eventually, the UK will get its own "Amazon.uk Kindle," France will get its own Kindle, and so forth, and the "wireless fees" won't apply to UK residents buying UK ebooks while they are in the UK, unless the UK wireless carriers are truly mercenary. A UK resident who buys an "international Kindle" is essentially buying a bleeding edge product; getting socked with extra fees is unfortunate but not wholly surprising. |

Well, I'm a newbie here, but I think it IS true...
--------------------------------------------- Travel the Globe with Kindle Travel the globe and still get books in under 60 seconds. Download books wirelessly in over 100 countries around the world, such as Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, Norway, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom (UK), and many others. Stay in touch with news from home by having your newspaper and magazine subscriptions delivered wirelessly while you travel. See wireless coverage map for availability. For U.S. customers traveling abroad, a $1.99 fee currently applies when downloading books or single issues of periodicals wirelessly from your Archived Items or the Kindle store while traveling internationally. For details on periodicals and personal documents, click here. To avoid any fees, you can always download books, periodicals, and personal documents via your computer and transfer to your Kindle using USB. --------------------------------------------- Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding all the Kindle bashing I've seen since I joined this forum a few weeks ago. mrv |
