Oh, I have plenty of morals. For instance, I feel it is damaging and wrong to deny that very central part of our human existence, sex, in favour of some imagined cloak of purity. The studies are already in, and its no surprise, the pledge has led to a rise in STD's, pregnancy and the popularisation of Anal Sex (because it's not really sex, huh).

I don't care if the 'pledge' is based on religion or not, whichever God you believe in that's your own personal affair, none of my business. May your God Go With You, as I've said before. But to pressure sexually mature people into denying the very natural act of sex is wrong. It's wrong on so many levels I can't even begin to list them. Sex, like eating and breathing, is a normal part of life, it's even fun

You know what they say: If you can't have the candy, you'll take the liquorice.

EDIT: And if I any way shape or form influenced anyone into reading Twilight, I apologise.

I'm a celibate atheist and haven't read any of Meyers' books, or King's for that matter, so I'm not sure where that leaves me in this debate. It has been interesting to read, however.

I think it gives you extra points i would assume that you chose celibacy (and correct me if I'm wrong) based on experience, personal needs and without any undue pressure from an outside group. In that case your decision is completely understandable, rational even if you take a look at the statistics on the longevity of modern relationships. The kids in these 'purity' cults are pressured and told lies and aren't really making a choice. They're denying a natural urge because they want to 'belong' or have been made afraid of what might happen if they 'sin'. That's what annoys me the most. Its the lies and the fear put on these kids by meddling adults. I'm just glad this nonsense hasn't spread too far into Europe.

I am three quarters through Under the Dome. I have read most of SK's books. In my opinion Under the Dome doesn't even come close to The Stand. It is interesting..but I could put it down ...and not finish it without giving it a second thought.

It makes no difference how many pages it is! Disappointing writing is disappointing writing..Under the Dome just offers you more of it.

No war has ever been fought for religious purposes. They are all fought for economic purposes but religion is used to convince people to do the actual fighting.

Amazing that people still read SK...I was a fan as a teenager and even met him at NYC premeire of Running Man (nice guy). If youve read one, youve read them all...I know it is a cliche, but you know what they say about cliches. Theres too many good books out there to keep reading Sk

Plus, I did not appreciate reading what he said about his forefather, Robert E. Howard

I read a few pages over the holidays but I didn't feel like dealing with a "Junior" right then so I put it aside for later.

You just reminded me of a book on my shelf: "The History of Christianity". There is not one single mention of the Crusades in that book, none at all.

Per Wikipedia: "The Crusades were a series of religiously-sanctioned military campaigns waged by much of Latin Christian Europe..."

Interestingly, your logic (which I find perfectly reasonable), could also apply to anyone who still enjoys reading him. After all, there are too many good books out there, by Stephen King and a host of other writers, not to keep reading these authors.

You know what "they" say about cliches: "If you find a good author, keep reading him/her."

Cheeers,

Yes I can see that, if you like SK enough you should enjoy as much as you want. I feel the same about Michael Moorcock, he may not be one's cup of tea but I like his writing.

I really didn't appreciate his Robert E. Howard remarks.
