My sympathies to you.

Well, they did it! Last night the folks at CERN restarted the Large Hadron Collider after 14 long months of inactivity. Scientists worldwide are ecstatic. Nature, always a little reluctant to yield her secrets, was reported initially to be a bit miffed; but those who know her best say they feel she'll get over it quickly.

In a related story, it was reported early this morning that Switzerland has disappeared into a gaping black hole.

Scientists have tried to allay our fears about the Large Hadron Collider by pointing out that cosmic rays routinely enter the earth’s upper atmosphere with far more energy that CERN could ever dream about producing.

They can't fool me. Cosmic rays striking the stratosphere are an even graver concern.

Ask yourself this question: When’s the last time you saw the stratosphere?

Was it last night? last week? last month? I’ll bet you can’t even remember the last time you looked up at the night sky, and said, “Well, hello! Doesn’t the stratosphere look particularly lovely this evening?” The fact is, no one I know can remember the last time they saw the stratosphere, and the reason why is obvious! The stratosphere has clearly fallen down a black hole!

In a related story, scientists speculate that Swedish citizens may soon begin asking each other, “Doesn’t the stratosphere look particularly lovely this evening?”

Cheerios are doughnut seeds.
Just put them in your planter and add a little milk every day and fertilize with a simple syrup.

What if the LHC sucks up all the doughnuts in the world before Doughnut Day?!

That would be cannibalistic wouldn't it, if we considered the doughnut as a species?

Just don't touch it.

I'm just kidding about all these end-of-the-world black hole scenarios. If the LHC presented any real danger, I'm sure the ancient Mayans would have warned us.

Although I have to admit to a bit of anxiety this morning when I read on the Internet that the Church of the Second Coming of the Great Prophet Zarquon had begun celebrating the return of their leader.

My anxiety subsided when the celebrations were cancelled, however, after it was revealed that the Prophet's return was not the official fulfillment of prophecy they had expected, but only a temporary visit. As Zarquon explained to his followers, He was "concerned that if [He] stayed away from earth too long," He might "miss Doughnut Day."
